Zymol or Meguiars deep crystal system

Ok so I went into Halfords today (I was bored) and I came across Zymol which Ive seen discussed in the forums before. The thing is I was about to buy the Meguiars 3 stage Deep Crystal system online.

Which one do you guys think will give the best results?? Probally the Meguiars as its 3 stage, but has anybody used it? and what about the Quick clay bar they sell... will it remove the rust spots from my iceburg silver 172?

I have used Zymol and it seemed to give a brilliant shine.

But I have ordered meguiars 3 stage system because stage 1 cleans the paint, stage 2 will polish it....going to do this multiple times and stage 3 will seal in the finish.

I am going to give the Meguiars stuff a go because the bonnet never felt smooth compared to the rest of the car when using zymol...dont thing it was the fault of the polish...more that the paint finish isnt perfect on the 172.

Next weekend I will post the results.

Tumbleweed:

I wouldnt overdo it on the Meguiars stage 2 polish - meguiars have a tendency to use contracting/confusing names for their products.

Stage 1 Paint Cleaner = A polish
Stage 2 Polish = A glaze
Stage 3 Wax = A wax

A glaze is basically a blend of oils etc, and has no cutting power. You probably wouldnt gain anything from multiple applications. You could give 2 apps. to ensure even coating, but thats about it.

You could do the Paint Cleaning a couple of times too, if you wanted.

When you have put a coat of the wax on and buffed it off, leave it for 24 hours to set. Then mist with filtered water, and buff off again to even out the shine.

Locky:

If it was the bright blue Zymol Cleaner Wax you saw, its actually made by Turtle Wax under license from Zymol, believe it or not! The zymol is a sod to use, and dusts badly, but I liked the shine it gave me. If you happen to life near a harley-davidson dealer, check them out and see if the sell S100 Wax and S100 SEC. This is a very potent combo. The pair should set you back about £25, but WELL worth it.

i use the meguliars "cold glass" polish which is easy to apply / rub off and leaves a deep shine. I also bought some of their "scratch remover" which doesnt make any difference whatsoever - better off using t-cut, their tyre stuff seems quite good though

The clay bar wont get rid of your rust, its meant for contaminents (ooh long word  ) such as overspray, etc - a normal polish will get rid of the rust colour for a while but wont stop the rust spreading

Hi There FaceMan ok thanks for the info, there is actually a Harley Davidson dealer about a mile down the road from me.I might go and see if I can get hold of some. I understand the wax but what is the S100 SEC?? and will that go on after the wax??

Oh I forgot... yes it was the bright blue zymol... I wasnt sure wether to get it as I have heard it can be a pain to use.I didnt realise it was made by Turtle wax though.Currently Im just using turtle wax (the paste kind) then Auto Glym extra gloss protection on top.Which Im happy with but feel I want the car to look like it has a deeper glaze on top of the paint.

always used autoglym products and never had any problems. Cant say I can be bothered to change now. Im used to what I know.

I do remember trying Mer a few years back, never got a good shine from their products

hi.

i used the maguiars deep crystal on my last car (saxo = blue) and was brilliant, made one hell of a difference. only used stages 2 and 3. not had chance to use it on my cup yet as only got it a week last friday. best of luck though.

Locky,

The S100 SEC is a paint cleanser (Shine Enhancing Cleanser). Its like a mild polish, leaving the surface very slick and shiny.

Youd need to use a stronger polish first, eg, Megs Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. Then follow this with the SEC and finally one or more coats of S100 Wax.

To find out more about S100 (which really is very good - if it helps convince you, last weekend I went and bought 3 x SEc and 5 x Wax, costing about £100) visit www.properautocare.com and search for s100. Worth 2 mins. of anyones time.

Cheers

Youll love the s100. the wax goes on soooo bloddy easy, just like butter. And it comes off beautifully too. Apply a very thin layer of the wax, and DON"T let it haze fully before you take it off. its all in the instructions. I tend to do an area at a time like a bonnet, give it a minute, then buff it off. You should be able to fully wax and your car in about 20 mins, if that.

When you use the SEC try to use straight strokes, not round and round in a circular direction, and go with the direction of airflow over your car.

Love to know what you think of it when you get done.

For more detailing tips, check out the forums on www.autopia.org. brilliant place. Ive learnt loads on cleaning and shining cars on there.

I ordered the S100 wax and the S100 SEC today Face... I should have it by tomorrow : ) it sounds like very cool stuff.Im sure it will be well worth it.

Talking about using the sec in straight lines I must admit with my 172 I decieded from new to only polish it from front to back, as you say in the direction of the air flow.It totally eliminates swirl marks. My previous car was a red MR2 and that car always had cob webby scratches from polishing in circles.

Do you just use the wax most of the time and use the SEC only when you think the car needs it? or do you use it every time?

Well, I kind of have a regime that I use for my car and it normally follows as below:

Every 4-ish months:

Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover (a deep-cleaning polish, abrasive enough to remove lacquer and thus reducing swirls, etc.) - although when I run out of this Im gonna get Megs Swirl-Free Polish; essentially the same thing, but gives a slightly more glossy finish.

S100 SEC

3M Imperial Hand Glaze

S100 Wax

Meguiars Final Detail QD (just that something little extra - not really needed, but still!)

Every month:

S100 SEC

3M Imperial Hand Glaze

S100 Wax

Meguiars Final Detail QD

Every fortnight

3M Imperial Hand Glaze

S100 Wax

Meguiars Final Detail QD

Every week

S100 Wax

Meguiars Final Detail QD

It doesnt always follow exactly, but you get the idea. obviously, all the above include washing the car first :)

Did you check out www.properautocare.com or www.autopia.org? well worth it.

If youre paranoid about avoiding swirls, try to get hold of some Applicator pads (Megs does 4 for £3.99) for applying your polishes and waxes, and some Microfibre cloths for removal. avoid your old t-shirts and bath towels like the plague!

Would love to know how you get on when you get the S100. Im sure you wont regret it. It certainly holds its own against waxes that cost 4 or 5 times as much!

Cheers

Ok well I recieved the s100 and the s100 SEC in the post this morning, and I also picked up some applicated pads and micro fibers. So Im set!! I usually use the lint free stockinette stuff.I bought about 15 rolls of it a while ago so Ive been slowly using that.My mums been using those microfibres to dust the house for months.I never thought to use them for removing polish.

I checked out the websites.Very useful info.I like the properautocare one.

As long as its dry Im going to give this a go this weekend.

I must admit Ive tried a lot of polishes but never really found one that works how I want it too.I had some stuff called Liquid Lustre once, I think thats what it was called anyway.I got it from america. It was good but a bit abrasive.Lateley Ive been using Turtle Wax paste.

Another big plus about s100 wax is it doesnt stain your black plastic trim if yiu get some on it. I think the same is true for the SEC, although not 100% sure (I always try to keep everything off of the trim anyway!).

Good luck with it.

Face,

Is S100 SEC abrasive at all, do you know? without me having to search through Autopia to find it :)

Thanks for the sample of 3M IHG. Hope to try it soon, when the weather gets better.

Also, one final thing, when you say that you should apply the wax/polish etc in straight lines, in the way the air flows over the car, does this also apply for when you buff it off?

Cheers

How come nobodys mentioned Jewelultra Diamondbrite?

I use it and have to say its the nuts. Again its a 2 stage process but works brilliantly.

I thought diamondbrite was dealer-applied, although my gf brought home the equivalent from the dealer where she works. Only use the interior fabric protector.

You can buy it over the counter at Renault. Thats where I get mine from.

Costs £30 but is enough to do 2 cars and only needs doing once a year. Although they do say it lasts longer. Works unbelievably well.

If anybody wants any let me know and I can always purchase it and post it. Obviously id be needing cash though. Not doing it for free, even if we are all friends. lol

Clare:

The SEC is abrasive, but very mild. i would say a lot milder than Super Resin Polish. I wouldnt bother me using SEC every other week to be honest.

Glad you got the IHG okay,

Best to buff off in straight lines too, with the air flow. Then in you do cause swirls, for some reason they dont seem to stand out so much - i guess because you could only see the light reflecting in them from just a few angles.

Face

Face , the microfibres you have.Do they look like felt?? or can you see lots of loops of material on the cloth?

I bought some Microfibres a couple of days ago, and I got some today but they are both different.

Oh and it was raining today so no polishing for me.

I did get a cool buy today though.I popped into les Smith and picked up a whole uncut Hide of Chamois leather for £8 ... its seriously HUGE!!! they had them all on sale for some reason.

Hello I am hacked off with Meguires.co.uk. I ordered the 3 stage stuff last Monday which was a bankholiday....it was ordered with 2nd class postage so it should of got to me no later than Thursday.

It is Saturday and I am still waiting....had to use Autoglym Superresin polish and Gloss protector instead...going to put a canuba wax over the top of it tomorrow as the water beads and runs off the car better than just the gloss protector alone.

Blimey... Have u sent them a mail.It should have been here by now.

.... its just started to absolutely poor down here... the sort of rain where your alloys are covered in dirt when you go out in the morning. So Im glad I didnt bother cleaning the car today.

tumbleweed, I ordered mine from speeding.co.uk as per facemans reccomendation (saving myself the 3.95 postage costs) and it arrived pretty quickly, just got to get round to trying it out.. was gonna give it a go today but it started raining.

I am going to cancel meguires direct and order direct from speeding.co.uk

All you want at times is just for things to arrive!!!

Impressed!!! I gave the car a wash this afternoon and there was a little light left so I thought I would give the S100 a go just on the bonnet and I must say Im impressed!! ... it went on easy... although the S100 SEC was a little hard to see if it was going on smoothly, maybe that was due to the lack of light. It definately made the difference I wanted though, and the bonnet feels glass smooth now.The wax went on and came off dead easy dead easy, and left a good glossy finish.

Thanks Face!

No problem...

I have all sorts of MFs, some like felt, some loopy. Some are plusher than others, etc. i think the plusher the better tho.

Glad to here youre impressed with the S100... quality stuff isnt it? the wax is just SOOOO east on and off. The s100 wheel cleaner is supposed to be the nuts as far as wheel cleaners go, too!!!

I have been hearing rumours on the autopia site that S100 is to be discontinued soon. Seems like to many Yanks have found out it is the exact same stuff as P21S, except a lot cheaper. So out with the cheaper S100, in with the more expensive P21s.

So, if youre well struck on the s100 it may well be worth buying a pile... I recently bought 5 tubs of wax and 3 sec just in case.

Dont forget to mist water over your car tomorrow, provided it isnt to dusty, and buff off to set the wax. Also, s100 seems to get better after its been on a couple of days, too.

Any chance you can post some pics?

Regards

Face

Oh yeah... re: the SEC... did you use a damp applicator pad, as this makes it a lot easier to put on and rub in?

i forgot to do this once, and it make it a lot more hard work :-(

Face

lol yeah I used a damp cloth to put it on.I read the instructions through just in case there were any tips to applying it.That will suck if they do discontinue it.Im going to the states on the 23rd of May so I might try to grab a load while I am there.

Face Ill post some pics next weekend as I only got to do the bonnet today. It was getting too dark to do the rest.I really wish I had a large garage to park my car in and give it a good polish.Ill try misting it with water tomorrow and buffing it out again.Ive noticed a few polishes work well when the are buffed over a second time.It seems like some of them haze over slightly.
