I can empathise with you BenR, as we are both a bit mad. Fortunately for you, you have been blessed with talent.

Is MarkM's clio the one to showcase the new induction system?

Marks will be running the top of the range induction system yes.

We have 2 designs going on, not just the one, for OEM management and standalone.

whats the quality of the 172 heads, inlet and exhaust like in standard form?

Whats to stop anyone getting a set of jenveys, a nice ecu, arp rod bolts and bolting the lot togethor?

M

mini-valver

Nothing, from what Ive heard from Ben thought the 172 heads are very hit and miss due to crap castings. Personally If you're fitting ITB's you want to work on the flow of things to get the best out of them......

  ITB'd Ph1 172
172mk 1 heads- not great
mk2 heads, reasonable
182 heads, pretty good (Far less gaines to be had)

Because to fit ARP rod bolts the rods have to be resized due to higher clamping loads which distorts the cap. That means engine out and apart, so for some £80 bolts, your got alot of money to spend fitting them.

Just bolt on the bodies and go, as the pistons will fail before the rods do.

172 manifolds are hit and miss, heads are consistent.

:S

Phs1 172's have the highest flowing combination of the lot.

Phs2 172's and all 182's have a significantly worse exhaust port and basically the same inlet.

Between any of the models inlet ports, there is no more than 1-2% difference.

And gains to be had are massive due to poor seat profiles from factory, and all the wrong port shape for a performance head, the valve area isnt utilised as effectively as it can be.

Thats good to hear, Just i changed the rod bolts with the c20xe in the corsa due to the higher revs as advised.

From what i see and hear from the formula renault boys that have played woth the engine for some time its fairly well built all round.

So you resized (align honed) the rods when torqued up with the ARP's?

The engines are pretty stout, its just the pistons that are a tad weak.

very interesting...

well...

if you have done all the other bits... and you want more... then..

however we usually suggest its best done as part of a package, rather than on its own for gains purposes....

this is OUR possition on it....

  ITB'd Ph1 172
also not a bad idea... ;-)

NA>>>> sell up and get a moped and race round car parks... (oh if you lean forward on those you go faster)

^^ so many people under estimate the ph1 172, its a much better car really.

Nobody knows it all (too many on here think they do).... but ben knows his shizzle! ;)

  RS4 480hp,STI 420hp,ELISE
I know they were better. I had one of the first in Belgium, with the lockpins on the doors. I sold it and always have regret it. Liked it much more than my 182

  ph1 172 / r1 mini project
