Hi all finally got round to playing with the car turns out it was just a dodgy speed sensor. Lights and everything on and it works fine now. Thanks everyone for your help.

Yeah it works perfect when the lights are off. Don't know about the horn the wheel was already fitted, my just swap back to the original just to rule that possibility out. Started about two - three weeks ago but I have owned it since may.

It is the JC-129. Just done the clock function that works all the way through. I have another 172 so I can swap bits and pieces over if needed. Another point the car came fitted with an omp wheel if that could cause any issues ?

Sorry, Only does it if the engine is running and as soon as sidelights or any other lights are switched on the speedo hits top end. Doesn't change if I'm stationary or moving.

Yeah I used a jubilee to take the other one of and wasn't to bad. Only thing I am worried about is resetting the tension on the belt as its not something I have ever done which is why I am not to keen to take the belt off completely . Everything else seems straight forward. I will pick a new...

Both normal 172s and same age.

Pulled one out of my other 172 that I knows working so I assume its the correct one lol I was hoping I could just do the same again but this time put the working alternator in and just slip belt back over and away we go rather than put whole new belt on etc or is it not that simple ?

All got done 1000 miles ago.

Hi all Alternator gave up yesterday and have a replacement ready to go in. Is it a difficult job? Also will I need anything else the belts only been on 1000 miles will that still want doing? Is there a guide anywhere on doing it? Thanks

Yeah I'd have the whole car, keys etc so all the bits will be there. Would I need to change the loom our would the 182 loom be the same as the 172?

Hi I have to replace my gearbox and possibly engine in my 172. Got a 182 I could use as a donor would this be possible? I know mine has the speed sensor on the gearbox and the 182 box wouldn't. Would I be able to use the ecu from the 182 in mine and would the speedo then work or is it not that...

Gonna hopefully take the box off tonight or tomorrow and find out exactly what went inside the box. Can you turn clio engines by hand? Trying to think of the safest way to check the state of my engine.
