Sinking the sub in the spare wheel well can work great depending on the sub. Try and make sure that the volume is correct for the sub you are fitting.
Getting a better quality battery would be better than having the power cap. There are batteries on the market designed especially for car audio...
Hertz, Rainbow and focal are some of the best brands out there, but you dont need to spend quite as much as you think. Look in the sales perhaps in the summer and january some great bargains to be had. Also look at Cerwin Vega, great sq brand that tends to be a little cheaper.
Impedance can...
Okay,
SQ = Sound Quality. Some people prefer to hear the whole range of the songs they play at the best possible quality. These systems cost alot to get right but are very rewarding when finished, i myself am a bit of an SQ man.
SPL = Sound Pressure Level. This is pure volume and air...
Firstly what have you actually installed? Model, Brand etc? Some products are SQ based and some are SPL based.
Check you have all your impedance ratings, input sensitivities and filters set up correctly.
Check your power levels on your amps, please dont take offence as non is meant but do...
Wanting to have a better set up than your mates is a great motivator! ive always been the same :o
Fusion and Vibe are on the same kind of level with perhaps Fusion being slightly better as they tend to be more honest. Vibe tend to over rate ther own products and are not that good at what they...
1) Amping the front speakers will improve them massively. You will get alot better volume and clarity however.........
2) The speakers you have in the front at the moment are not really good enough to be run from an amp. If you were to amp them up you will damage them. The cheapest good...
Ok, from reading this there are a few things that may clash a little.
Firstly good SQ aswell as volume cost a little bit to get right. Very much possible when done right.
OEM look, this will not make things easy at all. Keeping the car looking OEM is fine but this will seriously limit the...
Although having two subwoofers means twice the cone area thus twice the air movement this does not mean that it will be better than a single subwoofer of a different brand. One of the things to look at is the excursion, say the fusion twin has an excursion of 14mm per sub that will be 28mm...
There aint really any need to port a 10" sub unless its sumat crazy that can move a hell of a lot of air. Alot of the lower end 12" subs dont really benefit from porting.
£70 for a custom box is a really good price tbh. Our cost prices arent far off that and we consider our builder to be...
Sounds like at the moment your sub might be putting out quite well for what it is.
If i were you id wait a little while till the alpine just does not do it for you anymore then look at getting a pair of REaudio SE 12" or possibly some Rockford Punch 12".
It sounds like your last system did not have a good box at all. A port does not tend to alter the volume of a box unless your talking big numbers, i did a test at work a couple of months back, same sub, different boxes. The sealed box sounded better for all round performance whereas the ported...
Firstly let me say that is a quality drawing!
What are you looking to do with the port, are you wanting to tune to a specific frequency or simply for general music?
If you are looking to tune for a specific frequency i would suggest searching google for one of the many free box design...
If you want good bass in the front then you need to amp some good quality componants but you may feel that this is still not enough without a sub in the car. Door speakers are never really great at providing that thumping bass unless you spend loads.
My advice would be to replace the fronts...
2k watts = ~160 amps at 12v (presuming you have a battery producing 12v consistantly) using the amps=watts/voltage equation.
Good quality 4guage, as far as im aware, can handle upto around 150amp current. This figure is from talking to a few suppliers over the years, may just be them trying...
Changing the headunit to one with a seperate sub output and rca lines will make it alot easier and will help the system perform alot better.
Your 4gauge will split down fine with 400w going to the fli amp. 4 gauge can handle upto around 2k if its a good quality wire. Simply add a distribution...
As has already been said, using the same wire will depend on the size and quality you already have but also what your current amps power is. What is the RMS value of the fli box?
Provided that the Fli box is not drawing too much power you will be able to split the 4Guage using a distribution...
What sub are you running and what model number is the amp?
If the sub and amp are running at the incorrect ohmage this can cause issues like this.
It may also be a good shout that the head unit has a fault somewhere.
Easiest way to find the problem would be to firstly try a different...
I work for a car audio company, it aint my gear thats getting burnt out. Time and time again we tell customers not to put the gain up, its not volume. They never listen! :dapprove:
true true, you make a fair point my friend :)
It is a problem we face everyday, you would be shocked at the amount of fried voice coil and melted amps we deal with.
However an under powered amp does not necessarily mean poor performance, my current set up is half powered that im testing and...
Clipping isnt caused by the power of the amp, it is mainly down to the input sensitivity.
You can use a 1w amp on a 1000w sub, its the Voltage levels that you need to get right.
The In-Phase 900w RMS subs are actually rated at around 4-500. Total lies from a company that is a shocking excuse of an audio dealer. We only sell them as there is a demand, we do try and persuade people not to waste there money though.
Do not just look for wattage and power. I had a...
Aint got any upto date pics, will try and get some tomorrow at some point. There is a thread somewhere with a picture of the damage.
I know deep down that the savings from a diesel probably wouldnt come into play for me but something about the ease of drive and the comfort is just really...
Hey Guys,
Ok, time has come to look at getting rid of my crash damaged PH1 172. I am really stuck in two minds at the moment, whether to get a TDi or to get a newer cliosport. I really quite fancy the comfy diesel that will pull all day long and give good mpg but have read alot of horror...
To be honest unless you are going to be wanting some crazy levels of sound there is no need to go for JL as an upgrade to a Vibe sub. I presume your Vibe black Air was in a prebuilt enclosure? If it was simply designing a more agressive tuned box would probably have transformed your listening...
If hes looking for a Jack to Jack style cable connection that goes straight into the back of the head unit then no, there is not one available.
With iPhone4 i would suggest the Connects2 item with the 5V convertor as the cheap easy option or the Dension gateway lite for the best quality...
Jason,
You just need a stalk adaptor mate, really easy to come by nowadays. Should be able to pick one up for around £40, possibly less with a bit of searching.
The sony units have a direct USB connection inside the unit itself. I havent tested one with an MP3 player yet only iPods. I would presume that it would be a basic folder and file navigation system, i will try it tomorrow and see how it goes :)
Hi Pete,
Is it important for you to retain the CD function? If not then id recommend one of the new Sony Digital Media Receiver units. The DSX-S100 is a good peice of kit and you can pick it up for around about £100. Definatly worth checking out.
