aux belt kit changed

  monaco 172
Had my aux kit changed last week by a reputable garage but im a little worried as it seems to be wearing more on the left hand side already, could someone have a quick look at my pics to see if it looks normal.

It will be rubbing against that stupid cardboardy bit of carpet on the left side.

Maybe wrong but it looks like the belt is one notch to much to the left.

i was thinking that but im no expert, is it an easy fix or am i going to have to drive back up?

from first pic it looks likes its not centrally on the pulley, you can untension it and then reposition it but if youve paid for it doing it needs to be right. personally i'd want a new belt on now

It does look like it is out by a notch, maybe Dan, Fred, Chip could say for sure - though whatever I'd still take it back for them to look over and maybe a new belt too. I wouldn't accept it for sure.

yeh hopefully they may know for sure but it certainly doesnt look right, but i cant remember what it looked like before tbh but its was fine for 3 years and i cant remember seeing any wear like on this one

Update.

Took it back to the garage who corrected the problem.

I havent had a chance to look since i got back from having it sorted but i checked it earlier on today and the belt appears to be back out by a tooth on the PAS pump again.

Could my car be at fault? Or could it be a fault with the new aux kit?

Im worried to drive it now and the garage wont be open over the bank holiday.

No they didnt.

when i left the garage it was fine, i live about 20 miles from where it was done, i drove round the block for half an hour before setting off back home and all was ok. Then when i checked today after a week off it was badly again

It was a specialist, im not saying who though because they may sort it for me 100% so i dont want to give a bad name

hmm , how would i know either of ur suggestions without been done?

any quick tests i can do or is it a case of take it back and await the verdict?

Well I just decided to brave it seen as its bank holiday, I'm off, the garage that did it will be off and I didn't fancy driving it like it was so after a lot of arising about with a jubilee clip I've managed to straighten the belt back up.

Strange thing is that all the pulleys seemed perfectly fine, no play in any of em.

I'll see how it goes from here, thinking about sticking a pure Motorsport air con delete kit on soon anyway.

Also, is it OK to get rid of that annoying bit of carpet next to the pulleys? I can't see it doing any good other than the fact it appears to be rubbing on the belt

yeah just bin it, SOMETHING has to be causing it to jump a tooth, check its all the way in on the crank, had a few in that have been off

I'll see how it gets on now I've repositioned it.

I slackened the belt off completely and made sure it was on the tooth closest to the engine on the crank as there seems to be a tooth too many on the crank. Im wondering if that's why its worn more on the left because the extra groove on the left side on the crank isn't as deep, so if it was accidental on the wrong tooth this would put more pressure on the left side of the belt.

How the hell do I gain visibility to the rest of the pulleys aswel? I had the bumper and slam panel off and can only get to the pas alt and air con. Then if I went under the car I could get to the crank.

so garage said they will change the kit And belt but i havent got any holiday days left and they dont open sundays so ill have to tackle it myself.

belt has been fine since i put it back on myself so i think all the pulleys are fine, it just wasnt fit properly.

so

bumper off
slam pannel off
engine mount off
arch liners off

Anything else worth removing to make getting to the belt a bit easier?

Oh and fred, yeah ive got a feeling it wasnt all the way in on the crank, this would explain the wear on the left side on the belt and why it was been pulled across a tooth on the pas pump
