Aux belt slipping.

  Clio sport 182
Hiya guys.

right, for a while now when the weather is a little damp the aux belt has always had a little slip and a chirp, but I knew as soon as It got warm it would stop.

Now it's getting reaaaaallllllyyyyyyy bad!!! I've got a new belt and aim to change it on Saturday, the tensioners are a fortune so I'm gunna see if the belt once done is just the root of the problem.
but I've noticed all of the pullies are damp!! Not wet from a leak or covered in oil, but just damp.... So this will also contribute to the slip idge, any one got a similar issue or a solution.

oh and any correct/easy way to change belt?? I'm a mechanic and I've done plenty belts just not one of these and am sick of hearing horror stories about them

genuine kit it about 40% of the price of buying motor factor parts. £72 for the whole lot, or usually £145 for the tensioner on it's own if you get it in a gates box. Don't skimp, just do the lot, you're wasting your time doing anything else

I've got a gates belt and was cheap at £15 with my discount :)

What's best way to get belt off. How do you take tension off of the belt, not sure on how this type of tensioner works

Right I've changed the belt using the method of dropping the alternator forward.
Just before I put everything back together, what's the best method to get full tension back on the belt as I've noticed when putting the alternator back in position it's still slack.

Oh and does the belt run under the idle or over.... Seems at the correct tension under.... But wasn't like that when took it off

over the lower idler

you need a new tensioner and idler. This isn't a "maybe" sitauation. It's an auto tensioner, if the belt was loose, the tensioner is seized

Bugger. Ok mate thank you for that.
So just to recap.....
when new tensioner is in place (clamped with jubilee) with idler fitted and belt in place, alternator has one resting place??
release tension on jubilee, belt should tension hey presto right??

why then can't be a normal friggin tensioner!!!!

Grrrrrr lol.... The French do know how to screw it up....

so am i correct in the steps I need to take to rebuild?
