Engine Light (what diagnostic tools is there?)

I've got the check engine light on but have no symptoms for anything no miss fire or lack of power had no issues lately. Any things too check that could be causing it.

And also is there any diagnostics I can run and a cable that plugs into the car? (like for VW i have VAG com which I plug into the OBD port for running diagnostics)
