I need a new engine for my 182!

  BG 182 FF
Anyone know where I should start looking, how much it's likely to cost, what to beware of when buying a reconditioned engine etc etc.

In fact any comments welcome!

The reason I need a new engine is due to a snapped valve reeking havoc in the internals and lodging in the head.

I'm not happy!

TDF do a fully rebuilt engine for £2000 mate - safe for 7800 rpm and 210bhp with the right bits bolted on

Isn't much good though when his has dropped a valve, thats £2k with a customer supplied engine to refurb. His is probably going to scrap I imagine.

Get one from a breakers with warrenty and i'd be changing the cambelt/clutch etc before it all goes in. Cliospares/specialised renault breakers should be able to sort you one.

Surely though if it's dropped a valve, as the engine would be stripped when TDF rebuild it anyway, the cost of a new set would be well worth it as the old valves would come out anyway.Just thinking if you wanted to keep the car long term, a rebuilt engine would be the best route, but as Ben said, one from a breakers yard with new belts and fluids would be a little cheaper. In fact iv got a spare set of very good used valves that im chucking up f/s soon

Have you seen the guts of one thats dropped a valve? Its not pretty, will usually write the block and the head off. Fit for scrap only.

Here's another company if anyone has any knowledge of.

www.idealengines.co.uk

I had a look on the web and all the positive reviews I found were written on the 4th April 2011. The only review that was not written on the 4th April 2011 was NOT positive! I guess this says it all but wondered if anyone had used them.

Ok so I've ordered an engine from Clio Spares.

55k so fewer miles on it than mine had when I bought it last April.

let's just hope my regular garage have no problems fitting it!

Thanks for all the help and advice CS
