Evening guys!

My old mans 65 on Monday so would like to get him a laptop ideally for £250.

It needs to have a disc drive also!

Anyone recommend anything at that price?

Thanks!

If you don't mind refurbished the Ibm T430 sits in that price range, add an SSD and you have something that runs like a new machine.
The machines are pretty bullet proof and last years

On the assumption that if your Dad wanted a laptop, & can afford to buy one, he would have one.
He will probably appreciate you finding time to spend 2 or 3 hours with him more.

If I said to my dad "happy birthday Dad, I'm going to come to your house for an extra 3 hours a week" he'd escort me off his premises. And rightly so.

You have read something into that I did not propose.
A few hours spent on the occasion of the birthday & maybe a couple of pints down the pub.

Ignoring the disc drive an iPad would be a lot easier for an older person.

I would look for a well specced 2nd hand one for that price and as said, stick a SSD in there.

Typical CS. Op asks for cheap laptop advice and gets told about ipads and spending more time with his dad.

I can't help either though

What's he going to be doing with it?

If it's just browsing the net and watching dvds then pretty much anything from Curry's/ PC world etc that's in your budget will do.
If he's planning on running power hungry software then you'll possibly have to up your budget or look at used (although I wouldn't want to buy anyone a used laptop for a present tbh)
