Start from £30k is the current prediction seems expensive for what it is.

They said it'll cost a third less than a Zoe.

Yeah that isnt Liquid yellow or Alien green which is a shame. Renault used to be great with decent paint colours.

Anyone know what sort of performance these R5's have? I tried looking but couldnt find anything. I suspect this is just a Zoe with different body.

It's sharing the EV platform with the Micra EV, it's not going to set the world on fire.

They've already announced a hot version with a different electric motor. That'll have 210bhp.

“It will use a similar motor to the one found in the Renault Zoe. That car has 134hp, which would be plenty in a city car like the Renault 5.”

“but the 0-62mph time of the more powerful Zoe is now under 10 seconds”

Same thing different name?

They took the regular model, chucked a larger more powerful engine in it.
Well yes but no. If you want an Alpine you'll have to go to an Alpine dealer who are few and far between for the privilege rather than a corner of any renault dealer. Let's just hope Alpine doesn't become a trim level like Cupra has and the cars actually are faster than the Renault equivalent.

Renault 5 Alpine-Line.

Didn’t Renault try the dedicated RenaultSport dealer thing already? Or at least have “special” dealers that did RS stuff? That lasted all of 5 minutes iirc. Who dreams up this bullshit?

Is anyone on here buying one? If so have you purchased the £150 r pass to beat the queue when placing your order?

It looks ok in isolation, but I think it will be interesting to see it alongside other hatches. I have a feeling it might look quite tall next to some other cars.

Hopefully it's a decent drive too. Would be great if they made something that was fun, as most EVs just seem to be heavy, lifeless lumps.

hope it's not as big as the Ioniq 5....

hatchback looking thing that's been through the photocopier on 150%
Ioniq 5 - 4.6-4.7m long
New R5 - 3.92m long

Also weighs in at 1,350-1,450kg and manages a 362L boot which is pretty impressive. By comparison my Mk7 Fiesta is 6cm longer, but only manages 280L of boot.

I really like it. Nice to see some decent small EV options coming through.

It's shorter than a clio apparently so it may look a little tall but it's not huge. Some info on power and range:

Three power outputs are available, all single motor (20kg lighter than the Zoe’s e-motor) and front-wheel drive: 148bhp (181lb ft torque, 0-62mph in under 8 secs, top speed 93mph), 118bhp or 94bhp… although the latter probably won’t be offered in the UK.
You’ll have the pick of two battery sizes too - 52kWh for a range of around 249 miles and 40kWh for a range of circa 186 miles. Max DC charging speed is 100kW, or 30 mins from 15 to 80 per cent. Weight? Around 1,450kg for the 52kWh version, 100kg less for the smaller battery and, rather bizarrely, you can order it with a tow bar for pulling up to 500kg. Ideal if you have a Hobbit-sized caravan.

My misses really likes it, so she may be tempted to get one... in Yellow obviously.

Just watched the jonny smith video

How tall is he because there was absolutely no leg room behind his seating position

Does look good though.
