Whining at idle.

it's a constant whining noise at idle just after starting. I think it does all the time idling but don't usually notice when going because of music haha.
But at idle it will whine then touching the throttle slightly the whining goes away until letting go of the throttle and then it whines again. Is this normal?
It's coming from the alternator area, so AUX belt? I can record a video if necessary.

Bearing on alternator or PS pump I would think.

Does it get louder if you turn the steering wheel?

Not sure about that, I know my steering squeaks when turning anyway. But I will test it tomorrow to see if it gets louder. If that is the case, simple fix? Or...
If it's the PS pump then it could just be the level. That's best case!
The whine could be the pump cavitating but that can also happen if it's on it's way out. If the whine increases and drops with the revs then it sounds more like a bearing.

When were the belts changed?

It completely stops, instantly when it's revved! Belts were done before I got it. At 70k I think. what are my options if it is the case, is it a DIY fix? Or something that needs specialist. The whining doesn't bother me but if it's one of those you should fix before it gets worse then I'll sort it.

What's the mileage now? Lol

Depends on how a competent DIYer you are. As a guess I would say it is the alternator but that is just a guess. It will just get louder if you leave it but shouldn't fail catastrophically.

Doesn't the 1.2 have a electronic power steering motor not hydraulic? My 1.6 has a motor

Okay I've tested it and it doesn't get louder when turning. However I have noticed after listening with my window open. It's not a whining noise as such but it gets quicker with revs. I shall get the video on here soon
