ive got to move my cctv desktop and bits into the bottom of the wardrobe and its not fitting very well, so im looking to get a small form factor pc.

currently im using a really old HP pavilion 743.uk desktop with Pentium 4 cpu 2.53ghz with 1gb of ram

id like to get an upgrade but something cheap and small, the pc will run 2x ip cameras one hard wired, one connected via wifi. my only requirement is some form of HD output so I can also upgrade the LCD to a HD one.

been looking at these types of thing

the cheap ebay second hand jobby

then the new

will the cheap ebay one do as an upgrade?

The cheap e-bay item... is not a 6.0 GHz machine. The seller is BS'ing and/or doesn't have a clue. A dual 3.something GHz dual core setup does not give 6GHz effective processing power! I'm immediately put off by the advert. I know that's probably not much help but I'd avoid that one personally.

Wow I'm amazed they actually do this on Ebay, first time I've seen it before! Proper lame marketing technique to fool the average user =[

I have an i7 at 4.2Ghz, does that mean I have 33.6Ghz (due to hyperthreading :D), haha :D

Yeah they are great machines, they can be upgraded with a Xeon and take 16GB of RAM.

Its a HP server, but you can put Windows 7 / 8.1 on it etc. They are very high quality machines and for the money an absolute bargain, the G7 (previous generation) were a bargain at this money but this G8 version is even more so a bargain. I've been running one of these 24x7 for over 12 months, you can have a cheap, reliable machine out of the box or you can upgrade them in all sorts of ways, mine has a Quad-Core Xeon CPU, 16GB RAM, 120GB SSD for OS, 1TB SSD for VMs, 6TB+4TB storage drives, the DVD-RW (which can be had cheap on eBay at the moment) amongst a few other things.

I want something that comes with windows preinstalled so I don't have to spend out for license and stuff.
