Using Radweld

  2003 Clio Dynamique
Hi all! My 2003 1.2 Clio Dynamique had a slow radiator leak, so I added half a bottle of Radweld to it, drove it around for 20 minutes and it seems to have stopped the leak, coolant level has stayed full since then. Yeah!

Problem is, it's a been a week and it just hit me that the bottle said to shake it before adding, and I forgot to! Is there a chance this will cause a problem? As I said, the leak has stopped, so it seems to have worked, but I'm just wondering if there was a specific reason I had to shake first and if I need to get the radiator flushed.

Cheers & thanks for your help guys!

Did you shake it atall or just pour it in? If it’s stopped the leak I wouldn’t worry.

But, ideally you need to replace the radiator

Thanks for the reply! Nope, forgot to shake it completely! I only poured half the bottle in, as instructed. Like I said, it seems to have stopped the leak.

I know I'll have to get the radiator sorted eventually, but for now I'm just wondering what the purpose of shaking it is?

Like anything you should shake before use tbh.

Just keep an eye on it

Although I’m no expert in this stuff. Have you googled not shaking the bottle first?

Yeah, nothing. People just say to give it a good shake, but don't say why or what happens if you don't.

For the same reason you shake a bottle of ketchup...when stood the ingredients start to seperate and settle at the bottom of the bottle

Basically you need to shake it to get all the "crap" that's in the bottle to float in the water so that when you pour it into your coolant bottle all the crap goes in with the mixture.

Personally I'd get a new rad and give the system a good flush.

Something tells me that all them iron fillings or whatever is in rad weld that blocks holes up can't be doing too much good floating around the cooling system. I'd be worried it might cause the thermostat to seize or even worse get into the pump bearings
