Battlefield V

Given how EA have basically given two fingers to the average gamer I'm definitely going to wait for this one.
I'm a big fan of the Battlefield series, but I'm not about to fall over myself and pay double bubble just to get the game a week early.

A proper gamer would make up that ground easily.

Installing now. I'll have a bash later.

I was going to wait but I need a multiplayer fix after all that RDR2!

How are you finding it?

Not quite as good as BF1 I recon.

I only managed to play the intro and then a few multiplayer games. Seems really good though! I actually prefer it to BF1.

It looks insane in 4K too. Really nice!

I really like this like, for me personally it’s a lot harder going solo than BF1. It’s a little tough finding a decent squad who just don’t sit around a lot. It’s definitely more on the squad based game now. Still haven’t got use to sniping yet and kind of still using the standard gun in each class which are really good.

Yeah i agree. Its annoying playing when my mates aren't on cause some squads i join are properly retarded. Really annoying. I couldnt get one with sniping to begin with but smashing it now. Unlocking the next scope is a must. And using the spotter. Its awesome.

I'm loving it. The games that I've played with mates have been SO much better than BF1 and I much prefer the setting too.

Even without friends in your squad, everyone seems to work better together than previous BF games.

Some modes are alrite to play solo, ones where you're defending an objective certainly can be.
Find a decent enough spot and you can just sit and hammer at the other team.

Been playing Grand Operations with some people and I’m starting to get the hang of it, it can be overwhelming at first just need to adjust and know where the enemy might come from and mow them down.
I’ve noticed a couple more people have got this now and starting to squad up which is good.

This is £30 in the PlayStation store at the moment for the Deluxe edition. Can't actually see what you'd get for the extra money apart from 5 costumes. Maybe it's access to maps earlier?

Had an hour on a few levels online, couldn't get into it. Done the first war story too which was ok.
Not as keen on this as BF1 from early impressions.

They just released the Battle Royale mode, I gave it a whirl last week.
It's absolutely s**t, I genuinely can't see why this game mode is so popular??

Biggest gripe was how drastically slow it was getting between games when you die, 5 minutes I think was about average?
Who has that kind of time to waste? I just want to play the f**king game not sit on a loading screen or faf around in a pointless game lobby.

That's my understanding and total dislike of the battle royale type game modes. Why people would want to enter a game, get killed by either a flukey shot or a much better player - then sit in a lobby for several minutes waiting for the bloodbath to finish - is far from my idea of fun. Sounds more like self-torture.

If you could quickly switch to another game or something that'd be fine, but the servers have always been terribly slow so you're sat twiddling your thumbs for ages.
The pre-game lobby and parachuting part are another waste of time that becomes boring very quickly.

I had one round where I died within 60 seconds, some dickhead appeared out of no-where, we shot each other in the head and it was done.

Still playing this a lot, the gameplay/general cinematic nature just keeps me hooked despite all the issues it's had/has. Best when shouting down the mic at my brother.

Barely touched Firestorm, infact getting back into the pace of BF has slowly made me much less interested in PUBG experience.

The Pacific theatre is probably the setting that would get me back into BF.

Really wish on a different tact, they had done a Company of Heroes 3 with this background setting.

Out on Thursday with 2 maps and Wake Island following in December.

Trying to get the guy we always play PUBG with into it but having no luck even with the free weekends they've just done. As soon as he sees it's not on Steam he's not interested. Noob 😒

Wake Island is legendary in BF games!

Actually quite accurate in terms of the overall layout and appearance of the island itself. The book about the Battle of Wake Island is a good one if you get the chance to nab it..... https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/293836/pacific-alamo-by-john-wukovits/

Looking forward to some new vehicles finally, the current selection is pretty s**t really and it really f***s me off the low in-game availability of vehicles.

I also couldn't give a flying f**k about Firestorm, not only is it just massively boring but the controls are different which just does my head in.

Some Pacific gameplay.

I think what that clip shows is the virtual lack of any target leading. Literally put the target in the crosshair and fire - 99% of the time it will hit.

That sniper shot at around 6.30 in - lol wut? The occasional tracer coming your way, barely aim and bang - the enemy's dead?

The 6:30 shot to me is more like, sees tracer, sees guy prone far away, aims above him for bullet drop and hits him in the head.

You do really have to lead with players moving fast horizontally, I've been using a lot of the semi auto rifles recently and when you get the lead right and every shot hits it's great.

Either this player is the 'roided in front of the screen - pixel-perfect in the vertical plane (is auto-aim even still available these days?) - or he's a T-1000.

To even line up perfectly in such a minuscule time is impressive - let alone to see the enemy in the first place. Pretty sure that out of 30 players attempting that shot - about 1 might even manage it.

I can't work out if its massive kudos in skill towards the player - or he preys well to the gods of Flukey BS Shots.... he doesn't even crouch or go prone himself, FFS. 🤣

Haha well it was recorded at Dice so i guess cheats weren't enabled lol. To me it's just skill with the amount of time these guys must have under their belts.

His name popped up when I rapid fired someone to death with a pistol a few months back lol, there is a chance for lowly players.

New tanks are pretty good too, 6 levels of customisation, with a flame thrower to boot.

I guess we can't have fun with these tanks on the other maps though? That would breathe abit of life into the well worn older maps.

Took a punt on this as it was around £17 on cdkeys for the PC, at the weekend. Haven't gone onto the cannon fodder of online yet - but tried the war stories single player stuff.

Looks good, sounds even better. Let down by some really weird game mechanics. Emptying an MG42 into a truck that's driving through a checkpoint and none of the sentries even react? Hit an enemy with a rifle from some distance - crosshair flashes that I've hit him. Then again. And again. And again - and he continues to stand there? Scramble about 50ft down a rock slide in front of me - try again and kill him with a single shot.

Hopefully the above is indicative of the SP side of things as if I have to pretty much sit on the shoulders of enemies to kill them - this won't be getting played.

I've run through them once and then tried to find everything on a couple but even that was annoying as the last tiger (probably the best story) skin didn't even unlock properly.
Coop is the same stupid AI dropped onto the multiplayer maps with random objectives.

Get onto the Pacific multiplayer and storm a beach already lol! I'm DJJonnio on Origin if you want backup. Last time I was on I kept trying to sneak behind the enemy line and recreate this.

@Jonnio - have you had any weird input issues on the PC version during war stories? Finished the British one at the start and began the Norwegian one. That played fine for about 15 minutes itself and then just randomly, I couldn't scroll through the weapons with the mouse. I couldn't fire either, nor reload which I have set to the middle mouse button. No grenade throws from the side button, yet I could lie prone from the second side button) and also crouch using RMB.

Went over to some dead enemies and couldn't pickup their dropped weapons. The alarm had been triggered and I had nothing at all that I could fight back with - lol.

Jumped onto an MG42 emplacement - fired a couple of rounds and it was back up and working with the weapon selection when I left the emplacement?

What I don't get - and this is a bizarre DICE staple-feature - is why the hell can you not scroll through all of your inventory with the mouse wheel???? Both BF4, BF1 and I think BF3 does it too. You only have four bits of kit anyway and they are all considered as weapons in some shape or form. Instead, you can switch between primary and secondary and then press 3 or 4 to switch to the bits of equipment. Just leave it ALL on the scroll wheel like you did with BF1942, BF2142, etc. I actually think this might be due to console (and by that definition) gamepad support in the later titles. It certainly stutters the fluid flow of the K&M users on PC.

A silly oversight, imo.

Can't say I remember that issue on singleplayer, perhaps one of the recent updates has added it? I've had similiar weird moments where I could only run about on multiplayer though iirc, very rare though.

I ended up setting the equipment to the thumb buttons on my mouse which works pretty well, same with tanks but sometimes still use the 3/4 keys. Tried to do it on the planes as well but that didn't seem to work as well, it was like the equipment assignments didn't match up with what I thought they should - need to play with it more.
I guess it makes sense that they aren't on the wheel because some of the equipment just instantly gets used when you select it so you'd scroll through with the mouse wheel and automatically try to throw out bandages/ammo or deploy flares/smoke from a vehicle.

Must admit I normally mash 1 or 2 to switch weapons in a hurry, keeps my finger on the trigger lol.

Had my first online experience of BFV last night.

Joined that squad-option where it appears to be four-a-side. New map, unknown kit - just jumped onto a squad-mate with a passing Sherman tank (obviously a sitting duck in the turret on top). Drove around a bit, made a couple of the other side keep their heads down, before I got blown out of the turret. No-one was near to revive me, so I died.

Respawned back at base as a medic. Headed to where the firing was coming from and came off worse with a player with a very accurate hip-firing LMG. No worries - still learning how this plays and runs.

The round abruptly finished with the Japanese side clearly winning and us Yanks failing miserably. The text window appears with a squad member on our side "My team are n00bs" and some gimp on the other side saying "EZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ". Really? I actually laughed at the screen - did I suddenly go in a time warp and get sent back to 2002? Have the Keyboard Kids not evolved since then and grown up?

It's a funny and cringeworthy attitude to have - arguably more embarrassing by acting like a spoilt kid. Even in the days when I ploughed hours into BF2, BF2142 and BF:BC2 - I never once came out with such verbal shite as that. Even when I was accused of cheating at one point.

It's no wonder I prefer sticking with PvE than PvP crap. ;)
