Bass reflex can’t handle bass!!

  Renault clio
Hi all.

I have a 2015 clio, with bass reflex speakers but they can’t handle the bass from my music. I’ve been reading the forums and I’m guessing the speakers I have are the originals. Can anyone recommend a cheap way to to improve the sound so I can still use all my controls etc?

I have a Sony headunit, but tbf it’s only going to do what the factory original will do anyway, is it worth spending hundreds on upgrading it all or is there other options to improve it? I don’t have room for a big sub, and I had it turned right down anyway when I had one previously cause it was so overpowering. I just want a decent sound that doesn’t fart when the bass drops..

Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated, pricing it all up it would be the best part of 500 and all I want is it not to fart lol

The issue is really that speakers in doors arent designed for bass, subs are designed for bass.

The best thing you can do without spending a fortune is sound deaden all the panels around the speakers and seal any holes in the door cavitys.if your still not happy and still don't Want a sub the next option would be to upgrade the speakers and run an amplifier.

Changing the headunit won't do a great deal, even aftermarket headunits only output about 15w RMS per channel.

Thank you for replying. I’ve seen some recommending installing an underseat sub to carry the bass? I wouldn’t mind a sub as long as it isn’t big and it doesn’t overpower everything..

And someone on a different forum suggested upgrading to Bose that come as standard in high end models? Would this be a straight swap?

Yeh an underseat sub would work, but you need the ability to cut the bass from the standard speakers to stop them flapping at high volumes, sometimes only doable with an aftermarket headunit.

Duno about Bose, I personally would touch it with a barge pole.

To maybe a small sub, install my Sony headunit and run the existing speakers from that?
Yeh that would work. Try just a sub with your existing setup first, you might find that now the sub is producing the bass you don't need to run the fronts to the point of them sounding crap trying to squeeze bass out of them

Ok thanks so much, this is beyond my remit so I will have to get someone to install it for me..how can I make the sub carry the bass through the existing headunit though? Will it allow me that option or do I just turn the bass down to the speakers? Sorry, I know I probably sound thick but my forte is people not cars lol

You need to change the head unit to get improved bass, the standard media nav doesn't have the guts to drive the speakers

I haven’t even got the media nav I have a standard model and was just happy to have a usb and hands free! Easily pleased over here lol however, I love my tunes and the farting is a no no lol

I'd imagine the base unit is probably just as bad then, the later cars with medianav evolution have the same speaker setup but the sound quality and bass is night and day better!

So, I need the stalk to wire my headunit to the steering controls and hands free (part ctsrn007.2) I need a sub, fascia adapter (part ct24rt18) aerial adapter, is that it?
Can you recommend a decent underseat sub at all?

Sorry I don't know much about ice these days so I'm not sure on recommendations. I would just change the head unit first and see if you're happy with that increase in quality before worrying about subs
