172 Insurance young driver

  Clio 197
Hello,
At the end of this year I'm looking to upgrade to a 172 from a non-sport. I'll be 19 and have 2 years ncb. Can anyone recommend a good insurance company that is willing to insure someone my age for a decent price on a 172/182?
Cheers, Max.

I had my 172 from 19-23yrs old. Mainly used Admiral, and I think Adrian Flux at one point.

Sounds like admiral might be the ones then although there's a club discount for Adrian Flux on here I believe so I wonder the difference that would make

If you go for a standard one you'll have a better chance of getting a reasonable quote. Start adding mods and you'll severely limit the insurers who'll offer cover. Get some quotes before buying a car too!
Yeah I'm definitely going to go for a standard one, they're good enough standard really anyway especially as a second car after a 1.2. Looking at some quotes now just on compare the market if I put what my details would be 172s are coming up a solid few hundred quid cheaper a year to insure aswell.

My insurance on my first 172 was £550 for the year with Greenlight at 20 and 3YNCB with 1 non fault claim and 0 points

I'm still paying roughly the same having moved to Bradford and picked up 3 points and 3 more years in the age-o'meter. Disgusting

Jeez that's painful, £550 for 3 years ncb is very good though. I thought greenlight only insure 21+ though?

Nah they're 19 years and older mate

Yeah in total at the minute in paying ~£1100 for a modified Megane 175 and a modified Clio 172 living in BD6, 23 years old, 3 points, 1 non fault claim and 5 years NCB

Ahh they're definitely on the list of maybes then, I've heard lots of good things about them.
I suppose that's not awful but the fact it's hardly gone down I bet is quite painful. I'm guessing the Megane is the daily? I'd love a 175

Eh idk about the modifications point. My modifications list is quite long, I'm 22 (female..) no NCB as it's on my other car & on my 172 I pay around £560 with Sterling Owners Club Insurance. Found them on price comparison site, they mirrored my NCB & beat any quote I had by a mile from any big modified insurance company! Albeit I did get stupid quotes from the usual insurance companies of £3k+..

Adrian Flux aren't what they used to be. I've been with them nigh on 20 years and this will most definitely be the last time I insure with them.
And you don't get any discount being on Cliosport even though they might say you do.

Yeah 175 is my daily driver mate

They're good cars, especially for the price you can them up at. And it is slightly annoying how it hasn't really gone down in that time. Although some of my friends pay more than £1100 a year for 1 car and they're older than me so I'm pretty lucky in that respect

Ahhh great! Do you remember whether you rang up or did the quote online?
Done it online on their website this was before the days of price comparison sites, I was £3000 a year the first year then my 2nd year it halfed and pretty much continued to half, I now insure them for £180 a year 😎

Adrian Flux and Greenlight and other brokers usually put 'risky' people with either Highway (now part of LV) or Markerstudy - and it's entirely possible different brokers will give different rates with the same insurers, so it's worth asking who they are proposing to put you with, then looking up the T&Cs online to make sure they are suitable for you. (Which, IME, are rarely available )

I believe both are 'difficult' to claim from... but then as long as it's someone else claiming off your insurance and not you, why would you care :p haha

You mean they're even worse than they're used to be?

Jesus, I didn't even know that was possible, lol.

Cheers everyone for all the suggestions and advice. I'm definitely going to be steering well clear of Adrian flux haha😬 just hoping that when the time comes one of the decent lot will be able to give me a reasonable quote as the cheapest I could get from compare the market was around £2300 for a 172 with Privilege

Hi.
I'm sorry to here that. If there's anything I can do to help then please feel free to drop me a line.
With regards to club discounts whilst we do offer discount of up to 15% off there maybe times when an insurer who doesn't offer a club discount is the most competitive premium.
Regards,
Dan
