Multiple faults on 2007 MK3 Clio 1.6 Auto Initiale

Hi,

I'm new to this forum.

I hope someone can guide me. I'm more a VW man unfortunately.

Made a mistake buying a MK 3 Clio 1.6 Auto/ Semi Auto Initiale. Nice spec. Always fancied one. Needed a car for my partner that's an auto

Massively overlooked things although got it cheap.

Needed a jump start to get home and engine management light on. He told me it was just the O2 sensor. So I bought the car.

Got home. Drove bk 15 miles ok. Then realised front wipers not working, and the fan.

Cleaned the scuttles filled with water fitted a new wiper motor.

Wipers worked half way. Then the fun began.

Now tailgate doesn't lock. Changed the boot catch.

Battery drains suddenly down to 6.5 volts.

Central locking doesn't work.

The interior fan working intermittently. If I tap the centre console restarts.

I get a steering lock fault, injector fault, transmission fault.

I cleaned the battery terminals.

Any ideas here?

I put a cheap diagnostic tool in. It says alternator overcharging.

Then used the OBD and get Camshaft Position actuator issue and another Turbine shaft speed sensor. Unrelated???

Any takers. Sorry for thing long one!

Is this the UCH?

If anyone can fix it let me know if you can and cost

Where are you located?

There’s some really good specialists on here and we can point you towards them.

You need someone with clip (the Renault diag tool) to read it properly otherwise you’ll waste £££ on parts darts.

Thanks Daniel.

I'm in North London.

Can you kindly make any suggestions who can help, got a bad feeling it's big money?

Can you buy a CLIP diagnostic tool or is this dealer level equipment?

Just wondering what the final costs will be here!

Think I also have a leaky thermostat gasket from the looks of it too, dropping engine oil. Not sure if that's a DIY job. ?

It might not be much help but i had a similar experience, although not as bad it seems.
Girlfriends car wipers stopped working one day, figured out that the scuttle drains were full of water and the passengers footwell was totally flooded. Spent the day swapping the wiper motor out and ripping up the carpet to clean up. Few days later the fan stopped working, was being caused by the fuse/coil pack thing behind the glovebox. Fixed that and assumed it was all sorted. Few months later the alternator went.
From what i can tell the water got into all the electrics somehow, either through the soaked carpets, from moisture in the cabin etc...
So if i was you i would go searching for water anywhere in the car that it shouldn't be, if the scuttle drains were full its likely to have gone down into the cabin air intake and through the cabin filter and then everywhere else. If you can find any water and dry it out, you might get lucky and find it sorts itself out once dry.
I know in the mk3 there's a load of wires that run down the passengers side which is where its likely to be wet, water might have gotten into a connector and caused a short or bad contact.
Hope you get it sorted

Thanks rbeazer.

That's useful. Ive got a Haynes Manual, maybe I could look at these things. Unfortunately this Initiale model is all bells and whistles keyless start plus it has a semi auto box. Got a feeling I might do a right bodge and make it worse which feels like it has happened. Feels like since I changed the wiper motor all the nonsense started from then. Maybe plain coincidence. Immense battery drain is what I don't get. I heard some buzzing sound, busted relay or the UCH. Who knows. Someone told me the MK3 phase 1 had slightly questionable electricals. Wish I had done my homework!

The only ones I know of that way are Two Techs in Dartford. They get good reviews all the time.

The only other thing worth checking that i know is common and causes issues is the fuse board near the battery. Think its called the UPC. Full of fuses and relays. Had one relay on mine burn out and melt the enclosure which meant the headlights wouldn't turn off. Just worth a check before spending money on diagnostics. A burnt fuse/relay should be easy to spot, or any water in the footwells should also be easy to find. Might at least give you an idea of what's causing it.
Both cars ive dealt with that had electrical faults were mk3 phase 1, thats why i mentioned the water in footwells and faulty fuse boards because i know they are common issues

Very helpful. Thanks. Love these acronyms. UPC, UCH. Aarrgh! Was thinking about an open relay. Some odd clicking. Worth a punt. Thought i might have an earth fault too but no idea where the earth's are?

Thanks. Someone mentioned AW motorworks. Alex. Do you know them?
Ahh, didn’t know he was that way.

Never dealt with him myself but know plenty of people on here that rave about him. Been around the forum a long time too.

This might help. The fuse box is what is called the UPC. Just a fuse and relay board. Think its got a few tx20 screws holding the cover. Worth checking. The seals on them are made of foamy rubber that eventually lets go and lets water in. Any water overflowing from the scuttle could easily find its way in

Nice one. Cheers.
Hope I can get my tailgate locked! Been open for over a month!
