172 MOT Fail - Emissions

Hi All

Looking for some advice and guidance please! My 172 Cup failed its MOT on Thursday on the emissions being too high.

I bought the car last year and it had a decat pipe on. Prior to the MOT this year, As the rear box on exhaust was rattling and I had no cat, Ive just had a local exhaust fabricator make a 200 cell sports cat and stainless exhaust for it.

However it failed its MOT on Thursday, and below is the emissions test sheet.

I know when the emissions were tested the car had been sat for over an hour and was not warmed up.

Would taking it back for a retest, and having the cat properly warmed up make much of a difference??

Can anyone who understand these figures advise if they all look ok?
Am I right in thinking the Lambda only just scraped a pass on the first idle test? Would changing the lambda make any difference to the emissions?

Any help gratefully received. Thanks all.

Why is it's Megane on the invoice?

Not sure mate. Didnt notice it was on there until I got home. My reg is correct on it tho.

Does anyone know if the Min and Max limits on the test results are correct for a Clio?

If you have a 200 cell cat, you’ll definitely need to get it nice and hot for an emissions test.

don't worry about the reg being wrong. That just needs a good warm up before test, surprized they didn't, We would have failed that, took it on a road test to warm it up and retested and passed.

Thanks for all the replies.

Will get it rebooked next week and give it a thrash all the way there!

Get it banged off the limiter whilst its sat in the bay.
Manual rpm override helps too.

Funnily enough the same just happened to my 182. Need to get to 0.3 CO for it to pass, even after getting it really hot, cat clean additive and new plugs it still wouldn't get past 0.5 CO on fast idle.

New cat going on now.

Ahh really. Thats insightful, thanks for replying!!

Can I please ask, what were your readings for Lambda? Mine seem borderline, wondering if a new Lambda may help things?

Also, where you getting a new cat from?

Thanks

Really annoying to be fair as my cat has only been in about 18 months too!
Gen new bosch o2 upstream reading 1.01 so okay there. Just advised to change the cat as apparently goosed.
Have another 200 cell ebay special to hand so putting this in as close to the manifold as possible as it was behind a small flexi joint before which was prob not helping upon hindsight 😁

Is your cat joined directly to manifold?

Ahh i see. Thanks for that.

To be honest Im not sure where the cat is on mine. Only had the exhaust and cat on there a few days before going for MOT and not had a proper look underneath.

So the Cat is new and it's failed on emissions? I'd take it back to the place that fabricated the exhaust and tell them.

Hi mate for what it's worth passed MOT today with an eBay 200 cell cat, welded to manifold with a new airtight flexi too, CO only 11 at fast idle.

Any updates on what cat you have in and where it is?

Hi

Thanks for the update, thats good to hear that yours passed today.

Not had time to find out the brand of cat, but its a cheap one.
My cat is located in the same position as where the original one was.

If yours is directly welded to the manifold, does this mean its before both lambda sensors?

Also, have you got a link for which cat you bought please mate?

Finally, did they test yours when it was properly warmed up/hot?

Thanks again
