OE replacement front dampers - 172

Went to do a suspension refresh on my PH1, as I've done many times on previous cars and have come up against a brick wall that i didn't expect!.

Ive already got a pair of rear 172 cup dampers that i ordered last year, Noticed the genuine front 172 cup dampers were out of stock at RPD, checked with my local dealer, No longer available. - checked for non cup, PH1 dampers using my reg - NLA.

I noticed that RPD listed the 172 ph1 shocks so ordered a pair but got an email saying NLA and refunded.

Went onto Autodoc and had a look, KYB didn't list any (i believe that's who manufactured the Renault items?) but seen Sachs did, along with a few other cheaper brands. Ordered a pair of Sachs and when they arrived they are some odd hybrid using 172 bolt spacing, but with smaller bolt holes that the standard bolt wouldn't fit anyway, on a non RS shock. a bit more digging online shows they are listed as fitment for both 1.2 16v and 2.0 16v which obviously makes no sense.

But now having a look online it seems there isn't anything available in RS fitment that's not coilovers or aftermarket dampers (Koni yellows at £750 a set!!)

Anyone found any alternatives?

I have emailed them to check but I'm not sure if Kam do the same as some other places where they list them then place the order with the dealer once an order is placed.
Hi, I'm in the same boat that you, I will like to refresh the suspension on my ph1, unfortunately N/A any original shocks, and I cannot justified the KONI shocks money. Have you end it up finding any alternative? If not are you able to send me the sachs part number of that dampers? no too fuzzy about the size holes as long as they are 54mm.

Cheers

It's so so sad renault isn't making even normal wear and tear parts for these cars. I mean c'mon they are shock absorbers not some weird part that no one needs! And there are still many cars like these around :(

Sounds like the situation with sporty VAG platform stuff like GTi and GTD.
OE suppliers list a ton of shocks and springs for them (because they can fit), but 90% are spec'd for regular cars and not GTi/GTD.

Usually it's Sachs, Monroe and Bilstein that do parts to the correct damping.

Yes At this Stage I'm between 3 KYB shocks, I know that are oil and gas instead of the originals oil only but may be better for the lumpy roads in NZ
K&Y 333708 , What a parts store in NZ say that works, Unfortunately they don't have it in NZ and is a special order to I cant check if its 54mm bolt spacer. and on the description on Spareto says that are 58mm.
Or K&B 333707 That in Spareto shows as for Clio RS, but says the spacing is 52mm and this are Oil and Gas
Or K&B 633707 That in Spareto shows as for Clio rs but is only Oil Pressure, and it was a post here that somebody says that the spacing was 54 but on the description says 52 but it has 12 mm holes instead as the 14mm holes but it can drill out.

Unfortunately due to be in NZ and the market is N/A for Clios here I cannot order a part and then returned if it doesn't fit.

So if somebody for any reason try any of them and can confirm the bolt spacing will be great. Or have try some other Brands and they have 54mm spacer please share the part number.

And I cant go Koni or Bilstein b14 due to cost and Cert in NZ for the B14.

Thanks in advance.
