Just how many Revs is normal?

  Clio M 2 P 2 1.4 16v
Hi All

Clio Mk2 Phase 2 1.4 16v

I’m finding it really slow, almost delayed, but should I be driving at higher revs?

I’ve done reading (see graph for speed at 1000 rpm) would like numbers at 2,000 am and 3,000 etc.

Almost as if the timing is out ( previous owner recently changed timing belt)

I m used to driving / changing gear at 2,000rpm.

I’ve: cleaned injectors, changed spark plugs. Can’t get at fuel filter (inside tank)

Could it possibly be timings? Or am I driving miss daisy?

Cheers

Couldn't find any info for the 1.4's, but the 1.2 16v's make max power at 5500rpm, so you're definitely shifting way too early.

*Just looked on wikipedia, it suggested 1.4 16v's make max power at 6000rpm so no wonder you're finding it a bit slow

lol at 2k gear changes! What did you drive previously, an HGV?

N/A engines generally need revving much higher than forced induction to make power. 2k is fine for pottering about, but if you want to make progress you need to be getting up to 4-6k as that's where the power is (the little that it has ;) )

Cheers Chris, not used to 3k4k but will. Admittedly it does start pulling around there but thought that was too late.

😆. HGV.
