Cruise control squib

I've got someone offering me a steering thing with the cruise control and airbag connectors, but I'm not sure it will fit my 182. Part number is 8200634236, it's missing the steering angle sensor, what I want to know is will I be able to transfer my angle sensor onto it and will my cruise control function? Couldn't care less about the airbags as I have an aftermarket wheel, I just want cruise control for long drives

Interesting, can I attach an angle sensor to a different squib, and how difficult would it be to wire the cruise to the audio stalk after I'd ripped the connector off?

The angle sensor is part of the squib iirc and different to non asr one.

If you do this, you wont need a cruise squib.

You can also tap into the squib connector to install CC. (I don't have a squib with black cruise wire from the clock ring)

Right I think I understand now. Seeing as I've still got the working clock spring and squib combo, plus the connectors I accidentally ripped off, my best bet is probably just soldering them back on and being more careful next time.

I just have to dig deep inside myself to find the version of me that last used a soldering iron (it was 26 years ago, I was 14)

I sacked mine off years ago but this is such a good idea. I think I have a few stalks knocking about in a box somewhere...

Guess I won't be soldering it back together, I forgot they're stupid plastic covered wires.

I've been looking for a replacement and from what I can see, the cruise squib part number is 8200058677, and the angle sensor is 8200058692. Am I right in assuming I could swap my angle sensor onto a replacement squib?

I've seen the full assembly on breaker sites for £200ish, but I've found the cruise control squib (hopefully in working condition) for £25 on a Polish site

Worst case scenario if it doesn't work then I've wasted £25, but I can't see a reason why it wouldn't?

It looks the same as the £200 ones I've seen around the internet, just missing the angle sensor

Thoughts?

It seems doable, just got to make sure the angle sensor is cable tied to stop it rotating out of alignment.

Well now I'm very confused.

I fitted the new squib today and everything went perfectly. Clock spring is all in one piece and the angle sensor clipped straight on. No codes or warning lights on the dash, all controls on the stalks work perfectly, and the horn works... Still no cruise control though

The switch for cruise or limiter works properly, I get the green or orange symbol on the dash, but none of the buttons on my Volantech panel do anything. They were working before, and it was the original wheel that I clumsily ripped the connectors off with, so I'm 100% sure that's not the issue. I tried swapping the leads around but I can't remember if that mattered before, either way none of the buttons do anything.

It was working perfectly before I broke the cables on the squib, but even with a new squib it doesn't work. What else could have broken in the meantime?

Update: resetting the brake and clutch pedal switches did nothing, so I dug out my multimeter. Turns out the replacement squib has no continuity in one of the cruise control wires.

Luckily I can return it, even though it's used, so I've decided to try my original plan of soldering the connector back onto my original squib.

I've got this little bit of wire to work with, and I've taken the connector apart. Looks fiddly as f**k but it's worth a try, and if that doesn't work then I'll just splice my Volantech panel directly into the connector at the back of the squib and bypass the clock spring entirely.

Feeling hopeful

I thought about doing this but couldn't work out a way that didn't involve a load of loose wire behind the wheel

@Brigsy personally I don't mind it! I did end up making an audio stalk into a CC controller, maybe Flexi is the next step

Aye the wire looks ok tbh, oldskool rally look. Have you tried the stalk? Ill give it a go when i have some spare time.

Stalk works fine (minus the roller at the back) but I had to desolder all of the microswitches. There is some multiplex wizardry, all the switches share lots of I/Os. Continuity diagram:

The dog's dinner... but as a V1 it works. I was really impatient and did it the dumb way.

+ = Speed Up
- = Speed Down
Right top button = Resume
Left top button and bottom button = Cancel

That's amazing but I was nervous enough soldering two wires that were supposed to be there. I think I would have had a panic attack doing that
