Default sound card drivers.



My sounds card been off since I fitted some new RAM to the PC (ok I didn't plug it in right) but now its showing up as unrecognised PCI item.

I've no idea what the soundcard is its so old, so I've no idea about what drivers to install is there a set of default drivers I can use or am I stuck I've tried entering seried number off it into google with no luck.

Have you tried going into device manager and right clicking on the unrecognised PCI item and updating the driver or go into control panel and use the add hardware wizard and let windows search for a driver, it may still be there, also check the soundcard is seated properly.

If that fails you can do a free driver search for your installed hardware from this site - http://driveragent.com/?ref=86

Or download and install HWINFO32 from here - http://www.hwinfo.com/, which will tell you what hardware including make and model is installed in your pc.

Thanks fot the advice I took the card out again and pushed it right in as far as i could and it now works no idea whay it doens't look like its pushed in any further.

edde - it's strange why this happens to seemingly sound-cards alone. Of all the systems I've updated and messed with at work, the same problem has happened to me several times. After running out of ideas, I've taken the card out and re-sat it back in its slot and suddenly it starts working again. :S
