In your opinion, is it worth shelling out £280 (or cheaper via Ebay) on an XBox360 if you're planning on getting a PS3 next year? I really like the look on a few of the games, GoW for a start, and Call of Duty 3 etc. I only use my PS2 now for Pro Evo 6 (now patched, and its f*cking awesome with new balls, stadium graphics, boots, fonts and crowd chants :)) so was seriously looking into the XBox. It was on an advert the other day and my girlfriend asked if I'd like one for Christmas. Hmm... means I'd have to spend the same on her, but is it worth it?
 
Some of the deals knocking around now aswell, cant go wrong really. I would try to get the package with the 2 wireless controllers + PGR3 if i was buying one now. You will prob get an extra game on top of this for sub £300 aswell.
 
I bought my 360 last week and it's fooking top notch.

Will be buying a PS3 but probably not until after next christmas when they come down in price after their first christmas in the shops and have a good rep/less crashes haha

i bought the premium package last week, and it came with pro evo 6, bought test drive unlimited aswell, well worth it IMO, i havent even got an HDTV yet, thats to come sometime before the end of the year, but even still the graphics are pretty sweet.
 
Dropped over to my brothers the other day and tbh wasnt impressed (yes he has got a HDTV) Spent half an hour or so on it and although it looks pretty enough but I'd personally wait until it drops in price. Lets face it thats going to happen when the Wii or PS3 come out.

When you look at the line up off PS3 launch games 80% are allready out on the xbox anyway.

I'm impressed with mine. Don't get too play on it as often as i'd like. Everyone who has seen it has commented on how good games look!

I think it's worth it and it shall tide me over until the PS3 comes down to reasonable levels. By then if it looks and plays better than the 360 then i'll get one if not i'll just stick with the 360!
 
No wait and get the PS3, i got 360, and the graphics aren't that special, and their still isnt' many games and the console has been out for 1 year, and their is only like 25 games tops !!!! thats pretty rubbish really isn't it. So definately wait for the PS3. Also my 360 has just started to do the dreaded scratch disk syndrome, so i got a ring of death on tm saits row, so i gotta pay another £10 to the maker to get a replacement cd !!! useless crap
 
PGR3, oblivion, Ghost Recon.

I just dont think its worth buying one now at that price when it's blatantly going to drop imminently. They're a year old now and there's the Wii and the PS3 on the way soon so it's going to drop and for the sake of waiting a few weeks I know i'd kick myself if they dropped the price by £80 +
 
just remember that the developers have had a year to work on the 360 games, and the quality of games of definately improving (GoW, COD3, RS:Vegas etc). PS3 is notoriously difficult to develop for and it'll be a while before it reaches its full potential.

I'll be interested in what the PS3 does, but until then i'm more than happy with my 360.

Most people thus far from the Japanese launch have been dissapointed that the PS3 isnt what it was cracked up to be. The Xbox has almost 60 games available, and top ones at that.

You'd be much better off getting the 360. The technical advancements of the PS3 are only marginal, and certainly dont tranfer themselves to the games at the moment. People can say 'yeah but these are launch titles' which yes, they are, but Fall of Man was supposed to be a 'killer app' and frankly it looks rubbish. Oh, and Tony Hawks on the PS3 is reported to slow down to 15 fps with graphics which, again, dont match the 360 version. I used to be a Sony fanboy and owned the PS2 so I'm not biased!

....and, Sony are now shying away from the March release date and are refusing to stand by it, meaning it might get even further delayed in the UK. Add that to the £450 price tag for the basic unit, its simply not worth the extra money.

Oh, and for those that say the 360 is a year behind - this is not the case. The system itself was designed and finished months and months ago. There was a delay due to problems with the supply of the 'blu ray' diode, so realistically the PS3 has only been in development 6 months longer than the 360 - Sony just couldnt build the things.

Owning a PS3 is like owning a Ferrari but not being able to reach the pedals!! It's got plenty of poke but you can't get it at.

I used to be a Sony fanboy and didn't even own an Xbox, but I'll not be jumping on the PS3 when it comes out. I'll just borrow one from work.

aparantly the japanese have been paying homeless people to wait in line for the ps3 lol rather than the stupid yanks who have been waiting for 11 days inline to buy one one bloke even quit his job so he could wait in line !!!

Also the cd drive on the 360 is noisy as hell, so if you want it in a small room (bedroom) it gets freaking annoying, you gotta sit far away from it,
 
I agree, the DVD drive is noisy but you don't notice when gaming. Plus it's near silent when watching films.

I've always been a bit of a Sony fan (and a Nintendo fanboy), but the 360 is a great machine.

Okay so it's not anything special in hardware terms, more an evolution over the original Xbox, but it's still got more than enough poke to put up some serious visuals. I was playing GoW last week and without a shadow of doubt is the best looking game I've seen on any console ever. The online stuff is pure genius, it couldn't be any easier to use or any more seamlesley integrated. Sony won't be able to touch that.

I read somewhere that the PS3 is all about the hardware, which it is, where as the Xbox is more about software, not just the games, but Xbox Live, etc

By the way, I have proper PS3 in the office now. Pics to come.
 
^^^ I heard the fans cooling the processor were very loud! Mind you, that was on the test bed version so that would be noisy I suppose...

They are all great machines, and lets face it, competition is what gives the customer value for money and great games in the end!
 
yes the dev kits were very noisy
all the reports i have read have said its whisper quiet and doesnt get hot. tbh i will beleive it when i see it as no console has ever been silent since the 16bit days
 
Ah, the 16 bit days. Used to love my Super NES!

Anyway, Scutch. Definately worth getting. There are some top games, and Live is great. The PS3 will have a technical advantage, but tbh you wont really notice this on the top games.

The thing is if you buy a 360, you probally wont want / need the PS3 when it finally comes out. I had this dilemma two months ago, got fed up with waiting for the PS3, looked at and played some top 360 games and my mind was made up instantly!
 
Just bought myself a 40" HDTV.

I always used to have consoles etc and last had an XBox. To be honest i didnt get to play it much and sold it.

I have more time on my hands at the moment. I always felt the xbox games were not as good as the Sony ones. Sony seemed to have all the cool titles if you know what i mean. I felt the xbox failed a bit like the N64 as the software just wasnt there.

If i get a 360 will it be the same again?
It isnt like im 16 and wont be able to get both but i dont really want to waste my cash. I am tempted to wait for the PS3 but wouldnt mind the Xbox now.

I am borrowing a PS2 at the mo and i think its pretty good.

So do i buy a 2nd hand PS2 until the PS3 comes out or do it get an XBOX360?

I dont really care about online gaming as its for geeks ;-)

How much is the 360? any deals on?
 
Don't worry about the noise the drive makes, yes the PS3 hardware is going to be better, i've hard one a month and it is superb, i use mine and a media centre too and thats great. Xbox live just works so well, i was holding on for a ps3 but when put the release date back, i bought one and haven't regretted it yet and don't think i will, i play PGR3 online loads, lose every race but still love it, just do it!!!!!!!!
