Can standard 182 shocks handle different springs?

Car  182
hi

just wondering, how well can the standard 182 shock absorbers handle running lower, stiffer springs for a prolonged period of time? willl they take the extra strain/stress put on them without bursing, leaking, etc in a short time?

cheers m8.

so the eibach, billstein springs people go on about usually need to go hand in hand with upgraded shocks?

or ofcourse the lovely H&R coilies, but not everyone has £800 kickin about ahaha

I paid half that for my H+R ;).

I used eibach sportslines for a while with standard shocks, no idea if it caused one of my shocks to burst, but my left front one went. They are cheap enough to replace, but coilovers are well worth the money.

182 cup shocks arent as bad as 182 non cup shocks, you'll be fine running Eibach Sportlines at around -35mm

i will have some 2nd hand H&R's for sale soon!

in about a week or two, excellent condition for 182 with cup suspension.

nowt wrong with springs on stock shocks on the RS's, the rear dampers are dodgy, but they are with standard springs anyway

Kris my 182 is uncupd too. There arent really any options for lowering it without using the existing shocks.

You could use Koni adjustable 172 dampers with the spring of your choice (recommend Eibach Sportlines) but you'd have to use camber bolts to get the wheels to sit right as the non cup 182 uses mk2 172 hubs but has a wider track (width between front wheels) hence the wheels would sit at a different angle, the camber bolts MIGHT resolve this.

Alternatively try FK coilovers as the upper mount is slotted to allow camber adjustment and so you MIGHT not need the camber bolts.

Nobody is really sure, I'm in talks with Koni just now about getting some dampers!

Good thread, My car was in getting a service the other day and they noticed my near side rear shocker was leaking, i'm running eibach prolines. i'm getting 2new rears fitted tomor. i've scored though cause its my uncles garage so i got a really!!!!!!!!! good price. 27.50 +vat per damper. :).

what dampers are they gary? Bilstein or renault or something else?

I've had 9 shocks, 7 rears and my 2 original fronts

u sure their genuine at that price?

standard shocks are fine on slightly stiffer springs that dont make the car sit much lower (like eibachs), there not so good on lowering springs such as the apex 40mm ones tho.
