How much extra bhp will you get out of one is it about 5-10 bhp, i'm thinking about getting one when i've got some money coming in, is it a big job fitting one after i've allready got a cat back system on allready?

Hmmm, it's worth getting done isn't it for the price and extra bhp?

For the de cat is that were you take the cat out and replace it with that and put the cat back in when it comes to the mot is that right?

So i presume the decat will have the same hole for the sensor to go into? Do you know any specialists who do decats? Looks like i'm getting one the only trouble is the clart on every year but that's the fun though the NOISE :approve:

IMO a decat isn't an option on a 172 as it is such a nightmare to change come MOT time. It really is the most awkward, hateful job in the world.

I'd hunt around for a cheap sports cat' then you don't have to worry about your MOT.

My Janspeed 200 cell cat' was £50 ;)

Having a decat would be great for the price and even better the extra bhp over the perf cat, however i don't want he hassle of changing the cat and decat visa versa when the mot comes it's money going down the drain getting it fitted

You only have to change it back once a year and the more you do it the quicker you'll be! At least thats what I keep telling myself!

I think i must be the gayest member on here when it come to noise..... im selling my sports cat as i found it too loud with the Janspeed. I would HATE a decat, and im in the minority.

You don't 'need' to drop the subframe but it would make life much easier.
You have to contort and twist under the car to get the sockets onto the sprung bolts. It is also a 2 man job as someone will need to hold the bolt heads from the engine side of the car.
I would say to set aside 2-2 1/2 hours if you haven't tackled it before.

I get fed up changing a cat on the 182, which is a piece of pi$$ lol

So id get a sportscat for a 172, or just not bother as its so much more effort.

I couldn't do change it to much for me, one my mate's work at Renault i could get him to change it

Yeah, suppose once a year isnt really a prob. Whats the story if you get a randon road side emmisions check though?

For me its just the increased noise that puts me off.

new gasket isn't needed

according to my police mate, you'll get a rectification notice, ie you have 7days to present a new MOT, he has a decatted STI scoob, but he's yet to see a traffic copper check a car

*disclamer*

if you end up in wormwood scrubs getting bummed by a bloke called dave because you have a decat, its not my fault!!!!!
