Mk1 172 Torque amount

Guy in the office wants to know how much torque a mk1 172 has.

i got mine RR'd in dec produced 151 lbs ft

thats not standard though, devil decat, magnex system, ITG filter

Varies between 138 lbs ft and 148 lbs ft or more depending on quality of fuel and state of tune (exaults + filter) , fuels such as Tesco 99 and BP Ultimate could give a better midrange tourque, they do in Mk5 Golf Gti's.

The 172 would be quicker than the RX8 in a straight line. Butaround the 'twisties', the 172 can't keep up.

I would of thought the clio would be better round the twisties, and the rx8 in a straight line?

RX8 handles very very well, rwd and near perfect weight distribution iirc.

The RX8 (211 Nm) has about 5% more torque than the 172 (200 Nm), but its also got about 25% more weight (1340-1360 Kg) for that torque to drag around. So he's going to be disappointed in that department.

And in outright acceleration its a matter of whether its a manual (170 Kw) or an automatic (141 Kw) RX8. The automatic would be slower than the 172, the manual faster.

IIRC the peak torque figure on the RX-8 is achieved at higher revs.
