Checking Timing Belt

Hi,

I have not long had my 172 and when I bought it the previous owner said the timing belt has already been changed at the last service but there is no receipt for the last couple of services so I was wondering if it is normally obvious by looking as to whether it has been changed? The car is on 55k now but is 5 years old so if it hasn't been done nows the time it needs doing isn't it?

Many thanks,
Dan :)

Look for a cracked cambelt.

Ring the garaeg with the stamp in the books see if they've done the belt if there any risk it hasn't been done get it chnaged as when they go its almost as cost effective to get a new engine.

dont know about checking it. i know round about 55000 and 60000 is the recomended milage for changing it mine is just over 50000 and it wont be long before i do mine worth taking it to a garage or just having it done anyway just to be sure dont want it to go on u could be expensive

Offical Renault warently covered them till 72k and 5 years but as you said any more than 60k and 4 years and unless you've a warently I'd get it changed.
