Dull whining noise.

Got a bit of a dull whining noise coming from the back of my 172, can hear it about 40 mph does not seem throttle related, so don’t think it is the exhaust. Nothing obvious underneath…any ideas?

  Clio 172 Mk2
guessing probably a wheel bearing mate. jack your car up and spin the back wheels yourself see if it re-creates the sound

weel bearings do above or drive in circles in diffrent directions and see if it stops or gets worse. then you know which side its comming from

sounds like a wheel baring, i test drove a 172 when i was looking for them and i thought the back wheel was going to fall off

You can't always re-create the noise when the wheels are off the ground. Tried this with both of my front wheels and they didn't make a noise at all, however the noise was back once I drove it again. Took it in to get checked and both front bearings were shot!

I have to get both rears done tomorrow, o/s one is making a nice whining noise so I'll get both done at the same time then all 4 will have been replaced and should cause me no more bother for a while.

Renault wheel bearings are crap! lol
