which lowering springs

  Renault Clio 1.2
im thinking of lowering my mk2 ph1. gonna go about 40mm i was thinking.

just wanted any advice, if i shud go lower, or not as low, which brands or shops to look out for, or not. also, any advice on how to fit them, or if i shud take them to a garage, how much do they cost to buy or get fitted

any sort of feedback would be brilliant, cheers ollie

pics of mk2 ph1s lowered would be a great help too

Personaly I'd never use just lowering springs. I'd go get some replacment dampers and springs the only semi decinet stuff is coilover FK being the lowest realy at £420 or so.

I you do want just spring then Eisbach would be my choice.

how come you would go for coilovers edde? everyone I've spoe to has said they are pointless unless you use your car on the track but I always thought having coily's allowed me to lower and raise my car so that it is the perfect height?

I'd got for them (a deceint set minimum) because no aftermarket stand alone dampers are IMO and good (same goes for much of any aftermarkets stuff realy damper/coilover/springs/brakes etc) and worth the money.
Coilover have the best dampers realy as there more expensive as such and are designed for a car with lower ride height etc.

As for there use on the track well yes they are wothwile for track work buy there many times better than any springs or just spring and dampers alone packages they arn't a waste after all Renault spent a fortune developing the best suspension for the car some £50 springs arn't going to make it better else Renault would have used them wouldn't they.

You can tell the difference on the road with good suspension setup its not a waste or excessive.

They do allow you to adjust your height (different ones have different things though) Its takes that long to adjust the height that once you set to what you like you never adjust it realy and get the tracking etc right for that setup.

well just for my 1.4 I don't know whether or not its going to be worth it to go for coily's or just stick with my original thought and get a 60mm suspension kit (Apex or Spax) for just short of £300. wheres the best plave to get suspension from so I can compare the coilovers and suspension kits.

Its always worth it suspension makes for the good handling no matter if its a 600cc car or a 10 liter one. Regardless of cost.
Definatly keep away from the Spax stuff.

And the Apex well only reason to go is there nowhere near as bad as Spax but they are IMO way to hard a setup.

See the john2modified though site and motorworld online (not the same as the high steet shop for prices and Demon Tweeks (they can be pricy)

Coiovers will never be worth it looking at the cost they are if you compaire back to back and can afford them IMO its FK's minimum or nothing and idealy H and R or Leda but that massive money.
