painting brake calipers

Car  197
whats the best method to paint brake calipers on 172 cup. i was thinking of painting them in mondial blue, can i get hold of this colour or not?

just use hammerite as it needs to be heat proof, you could mix colours together to create a near enough mondial blue, then just apply a few coats with a brush, it flatens itseld out so no brush strokes!

When you remove the wheels how long will it take for the paint to dry out of interest?

Thinking some gloss black ones would look good on the 172...

thinking about it, gloss black would look rather nice actually. would be an easier colour to get too.

just out of interest....would it be safer to unbolt the caliper then paint it, so no paint goes on the disk? or do people do this with everything still bolted in place?

Yeah, gloss black on a shiny black 172 should look good, mine are starting to look a bit cruddy.

Red is a bit common/ chavvy these days too. Yellow is a bit blatant, and silver is tricky as the wheels are silver and could be difficult to match. The black between the spokes should provide a nice contrast... just about finding the time to get the wheels off. Would be good to do the arches again properly although they just get dirty again as soon as you drive it :dead:

I used hammerite smooth high temp paint. Put it on a warm caliper and it smooths out great, needs 2 coats and an accurate brush but is an easy job.

Drying time is around 4hrs

Just have some white spirit handy - this will clean up any spills easy and also cleans the disc great after
