gearbox problem? (reverse)

Hi all

I think I am having some trouble with my gearbox. About 9 times out of 10 when I select reverse, it always crunches instead of going in smoothly. It happens anytime, not just when the engine is cold or hot. Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be. I took a trip down to Renault today but the service centre is closed so I am going back on Monday. Also, if any work is required, will it be done under warrenty? Details of my car are below.

Don't put it into reverse as quickly after you've put the clutch down, theres no syncro on reverse and the internals are still spinning hence why it crunches.

you sure that reversve hasn't got a synchro? it does on diaologys!

With a punto i had, i used to select 1st, then into reverse, much better then.

mine was the same always crunched in rev, had to select first the rev to stop it doing it,


took it to the stealers they said syncro mesh had gone and they needed two forks for it or something...
job done all under warrenty ofcourse

100% i've had one to pieces and its deffo not got a syncro on reverse on the JB/JC series box. The renault repair manual doesn't show it either??? (or the one i've got doesn't)

You'd be able to put it in reverse whilst rolling if it did without it crunching ala ford MTX75 box.

As above from what I've been told there is no syncro on reverse, personally I just go into 2nd then reverse to avoid it.

Always been led to believe there is no synchro on reverse. I always go into first before reverse to stop the crunching
