True, because a CAT reduces emmisions and without it they are too high

Its about the car not being road legal if it doesnt meet emmisions requirements and you can end up with a hefty fine. Personally will get a sports CAT which is just more free flowing CAT

Correct but VOSA road side testing is becoming more and more frequent and they will purposefully pull cars that have loud exhuasts because they are likely ot have decats.

Thats true, but late mk1's and all mk2's deffinately need one!

It is not illegal to have a de-cat, it is illegal to have a car that doesn't pass emmissions

on a 1.2 I would say dont try and improve BHP but improve handling and braking and learn to drive 'quickly'

aftermarket back box would be cheapest option, or cat back exhaust.

Most cars just cant. Best bet is a Sports CAT

Make sure teh engine is very well warmed up and there is a slim chance that you can pass with a de-cat, a number of 2.0's have done this and i have once with my 1.4 16v, but only just!

This is only any good if the garage do the emissions test straight away

Our cars run really rough anyway with standard system and decat. Was going to get 1 until i read up and was told about it. If i was you i would just get a nice back box or cat back system

Find a back street MOT station , and talk to the owner about having a DECAT , he may be able to help! ;o)

I know an MOT station like that, problem is he's that bent if you ask him to do that he'll just do you an MOT without even looking at the car, and personally I would want the rest of the MOT done properly.
