short shift

right not your usual 'where can i get one' blah blah blah

been thinking about this for the last few days and it has been driving me mad

what is there to stop you making/customising your own short shift from the existing gear lever?

would it be a case of cutting a few cms from the upper stick and welding in a few extra cms on the lower part?

would that give a shorter throw?

you would then need to lift the pivot point on the stick too, as the shaft would be made closer to the ground.

can u not jst buy the kit matey??

yes but im exploring all avenues before i fork out £200

i appreciate it is a well made piece of kit but if i can create something similar for a fraction of the cost im happy

if its not possible then i will either bite the bullet and buy one or stay with the standard lever

think outside the box ;)

surely that would just cancel out any alterations? making both ends above and below the pivot the same length?

Only reason why i say that is because i have tryed it. All you would need to do to properly shorten the shift (not the hight of the leaver is move the pivot point higher, but it will make gear changes slightly more heavier.

i think ive got it the wrong way round!!

would it not be shorten the upper half, lengthen the lower half (under the car) that way a smaller movement above the pivot point would create a larger movement under the car?

wonder how much it would need altering to reduce the throw to that of a B&M?

k tec dont make thier own its a b&m one and its only £165 IIRC but i like the fact that you want to engineer your own rathar than just purchasing it shows the willingness to ask why should i pay out money if i can make one just as good myself.

whats weather like in harrogate im up that way all next week ?

i saw a post by someone at ktec a while back that said they had bought the remaining stock of b&m short shifts as they have gone out of production

they then said they were getting an engineering firm to make something similar to the b&m design so that they could keep selling and stocking them

its super sunny up here  loads of harrogate totty around
