MK1 Clio Sport Conversion

  Clio 16v, Polo SDi, M3
I have finally decided what I'm doing with my Trackday Valver and I've decided that I am going to fit a 172 Engine & Gearbox. If I understand correctly then I need all sorts of bits and pieces, not just the engine and box. If that's correct then the best way to go would be for a donor car, but which model is best for what I need?

Before u do that mate u should pay the £5 to join and look at all the "project" threads. Loads of people have done this an theres step by step pics of what theyv done and parts theyv used.

^^ +1

You will need a loom and ecu and that will need to be decoded etc.

The donor car you need is undoubtedly a 172 Ph1, the Ph2 has FBW throttle which is a ball ache you don't need

I've read just about every project there is in that section (unless I'm going to the wrong place), makes for very good reading :)

So basically I'm on the look out for a Ph1 172 as a donor car. I'm hoping to find one that has been rear ended or something along those lines!

Try a renault breakers then, find out from ur local renault where the nearest one is an ill guarantee theyv got plenty of what ur looking for.

Pretty big task to do but if u know what ur doing and uv got the time and money then do it, make sure u take pics aswel so we can all see how u get on!

Excellent, I'll do some research tomorrow. I've already started converting the car, well stripping it bare. I've been taking photos s hopefully I can start a project thread soon.

Would anyone be so kind as to show me a picture of a Ph1 172, I am 99% sure what I'm looking for but just want to be certain.

I've never done a conversion like this before but always up for a challenge. I'm pretty handy with a spanner and I know MK1 clios like the back of my hand! Looking forward to getting started on the engine as soon as the car has been resprayed.

lol wouldnt it be more advisable to do the conversion before the respray just incase of scratches etc.

I know the mk1's like the back of my hand too but still would never do anything as crazy as this lol. Between both my mk1s iv had nearly every part replaced!

Good luck though pal.

What do you mean? lol

I don't really know what order I should be doing things tbh. The car was originally blue but some numpty painted it green/teal on the outside only, so door shuts etc are blue. I want the entire car spraying, engine bay, inside, outside etc. I have alot of plans for the car, it's my project for the next few months.
