  Ultra Red Megane 225
Just thought I would put some before and after pics up of the throttle body on my 172 cup

Before:

Oily, dusty residue had collected in the 'mouth' of it, and also half of the chamber was caked in same.

After:

I don't think the TB is a major restriction tbh.

Worth cleaning. Although ,my idle went crazy for a bit when I refitted it.

there was a guy selling re worked 172 TB's on ebay with quite a bit of modifiying done but apparently they arn't a restriction and the 90 degree bend on the hose going from TB to airbox is more of a restriction.

No point as the TB is not a restriction on the sport.

As above...filing down etc on this TB waste of time but if it makes you feel better then go ahead lol

yeah yozzasport are testing their new one out i believe, its a stock one thats taken to pieces and then machined out and a larger butterfly is added (72mm IIRC but i maybe wrong)

same as this http://www.lohen.co.uk/shop/proddetail.asp?prod=LohenThrottleBody

It would be nice to see proof of gains as weel as details of the conversion as I have always been told the TB on the clio is not the main point of restriction and I am interested to see how much of a difference it actually makes.

yeah lots of people jumping on wagons and repeating what someone said about it not having an effect, but no hard proof

Needs to go hand in hand with a re-map. I've seen loss of power by just bolting on a bigger body (on other marques), but if you map for the extra air you're onto a winner. You do have to be careful to strike a balance between size of butterfly, and throttle control. Much bigger than 70mm and the throttle becomes like an on/off switch as just slightly opening the throttle lets in a lot of air very quickly.

Same I'd take his word over others aswell

The TB isnt exactly small compared to the ports.

as with pretty much anything, you'll get the best out of these things if you use mods that compliment each other. As you rightly say the ports are small, so enlarging and matching these whilst re-working the plenum for the large body works well. I'm personally not in a position to post graphs, which would be handy right now.

how much are the teams allowed to change on the racers? i woulda thought they would have done it if they could, as every bhp counts
