Ive got £3k to spend!

  Monaco 37/468
172 over Glanza anyday. I wanted a Glanza at one point, but made the right choice and bought a 172...

For 3K, I'd go for the Glanza. 1.3 turbo, loads of aftermarket parts, light weight (900kg) massively tunable! Standard they're 134bhp and 0-60 under 7 secs. Most come imported modified in someway or another.

A friend has a '98 211bhp Glanza and needless to say, is mega fast and can blitz most things on the road!

Totally different cars, depends what you want out of the car.

My mate has a starlet and its handling is poor, whereas a 172 standard is good.

but if you're planning on modding it over time then you can get alot more power for your money with the starlet.

The starlet would feel slightly quicker 0-60 but overall the 172 is a quicker car. (have driven both).

Perfect for that kind of money....

Youll struggle to find a decent 172 for 3k mate, 3.5k will get you one with high mileage on it as youve already seen.

I wouldnt go for the glanza simply for the fact theyre utter tripe inside and they look like s**t outside too.

Up to you, but id save for a while longer, get another grand in the bank and then have another look for a decent 172. maybe a ph2.

  Turbos.
Borrow £500 then...

I swear i see more Glanzas on the road than 172s! They are so incredibly ugly.

Would you shag Marion Jones just because shes fast? NO. She has huge biceps.

  Ph1 172
I thought all glanza/starlet turbos were imported?

You can get a decent 172 for £3000 i'd say, especially as 172s in general arent selling v.well at the mo

As the clio is N/A its not easy to get big power out of it without spending lots of cash, if your planning on seeing over 200hp in the car then go for the jap crap

i've got a ph1 though and I love it

Depends what you want out of the car.

If you want something that looks okay, is quick out the box, reasonably tunable with excellent handling go for the Clio.

If you want something that looks a bit dated now (imo), not quite as quick out the box but with miles more 'straight line' potential then get the Glanza... just remember though that no matter what you do to it, the car will simply never come close in terms of handling. I'd also guess there's a power wall you'll quickly hit with it being a 1.3, so after than you'll be looking at major expense to get any more from it.

For around £3k, you won't go much faster than a Glanza. Even at this price you'll see some with uprated turbo's, ECUs, intercoolers, brakes, SS exhaust and coil overs, LSDs etc and many pushing out between 160-200bhp depending on the mods. Just look on Pistonheads to see what I mean.

As to whether its better than a 172, depends on your circumtances and preferences. ie insurance, commutes, running costs, modding potential, age of car etc.

i dont think glanzas are ugly. i like them, otherwise i wudnt consider them tbh.

And as to modding potenial, ive been in a glanza with 358bhp at the fly - v fast

My friend has been running his 211bhp Glanza for several years with no reliability problems. As long as the modifications are sensible, they are just as reliable as Renualts if not more so. Thats Japanese build quality for you!

I feel self conscious enough in a Clio, I'd have to wear a bag over my head in a Glanza tbh...

If you want a quicker straight line car for less money then get the Glanza, the Clio is a drivers car.

agree with that ^ the clio is a drivers car, starlet is more of a toy tbh.

they are reliable when modded properly, but some people just up the boost and dont do any other mods to support it!
