Recommend me a Head Unit?

I'm looking for a head unit which is ipod ready, between 100 and 200 pounds and preferably an orange backlight? anyone help?

the car came with a cassette player

so now it has a cheapy cd player which seems to like to eat and destroy all my cd's

If it needs to be Orange, Alpine is your only choice TBH.

Get the best one you can afford.

i only want it to be orange so that at night it doesnt look really out of place! would need the ipod lead and the stalk adaptors so will probs only be able to afford that one^^^ unless i save the pennies for a while longer

steveM - i have that alpin HU and its the tits. looks very good in the car and near OEM as you can get imo (apart from the beckers but there a fortune)..

K66G you dont need a box and stuff for the HU just a lead off CAD which is 15 british pounds and well worth the investment. my ipod lives in my glovebox now lol.

If you cant find any picks il take one for you steve.

130 is a good price also - ther going for 210 in my local halfrauds.

Plus with alpin HU they offer superior sound customisation. its unbeliavable really. plus, how it lets you interact with the ipod (search function etc) really simple. can find one song out of 15000 with just a couple of clicks.

want more info about what its like let me know... sorry for the long read but i really rate this unit for the price =]

Im pretty interested in this HU, I was wondering what the sound quality is like and what it looks like in your car, if you could post me a pic id be really greatful also what setup are you running on it ?

That looks really nice. May be a stupid question, but does it play CD direct through the HU or do you need a changer plugged in? Doesn't seem to have a slot or button to flip down...

ive got my headunit for sale itsa tv dvd radio with 7" fold out screen also has the ipod link to it .has satnav but you need to buy the box that controlls thats about 70.00 i think. its a sevic

how do i get it so that my ipod can just stay on the glovebox? do i need to drill holes or anything? and does this charge the ipod while its in use?

all thats spot on mate - exactly my setup =] only downside is that mine doesn't show anything on the OEM display - just time.

my ipod all i have done is put it in a sock and leave it plugged in.

you cant use ur ipod while plugged into the lead you have to control it using the stereo. pretty good if u ask me this set up would cost you like 240 from halfrauds

how do i run the lead to the gloebox tho? is there a gap to thread the lead through or do i have to modify it?

if you look in the back of your glove box there is a long rectangle

that pops out.

if your a perfectionist you can drill a hole on the edge of the rectangle and a bit into the back of the glove box but all i have done is wedged it in and put the rectangle back best a can . but hey its the glovebox no one will see.

you dont need a box. You need the full speed ipod lead which plugs straight into a flying lead which is on the back of the headunit

The lead is routed from the hu round the back of the glovebox and plugged into the ipod.

a glovebox is needed to ensure nothing gets stolen :rasp:

Looks the best too - Impecible sound quality as well...

I've got the CDE- 9857 - Awesome peice of kit!!

Would totally recommend it!!
