more roar!

as everyone knows... disconnect the air feed pipe from the airbox (the one behind the headlight) and you get a nice induction sound :) is this safe to do? cant see it being too much of a problem. will more debris get to the filter?

i wouldnt do it for a long time, try it for sound. Your gains will drop BIG time though

  106 GTI
I have mine disconnected but the pipe is still pointing towards the hole, allowing sound out but also air to flow in

If you like it like that you may as well keep it like it.

If there is a performance decrease, it should be so minimal that you wouldn't even notice it...

  BMW M135i
Its fine, you can remove it completely if you want it won't get any flow up it due to how the acoustic valve is situated.

wont make a performance difference just noise I left mine unplugged.

i wasn't bothered about a performance increase. wouldn't expect it to. dosen't seem a noticable decrease, just a nice sound.

i was just wondering if i will get any cr*p in my airbox

Have done this to mine, just keep the air feed in the similar direction if your worried.

I doubt that you will get anything in there as its still rather tight behind the light and anyways thats what the air filter is there for

yeh my clio has the bottom pipe still connected on the air box, however the cold air pipe for behind the headlight was minced on mine as was all mushed and broken in many different places so i just pulled it out, gonna get a better air feed going to the air box asap however for just now i have it off, dont feel any difference in performance etc

i guess it might vary between cars but i've played with the air filter on mine to see what difference running without one/without various hoses attached makes to the performance (none!), the MPG, and noise - and running without that hose connected lost something like 4mpg (according to the OBC) at m'way cruising speeds

it's easy enough to moniter yourself to see how your own car reacts

Had mine off for ages now. I still managed to get 45mpg on a very boring 90 mile motorway run and my normal running about seems to be the same as it was with it.
Can't notice any difference in performance whats so ever.

I don't buy the "worse MPG" claims

All your doing is loosing a small amount of CAF. It's by no means dangerous, but inlet temps may be marginally increased.
If you want real roar- relocate, or get a smaller battery and rig up a cone filter (open IK) with an induction pipe and a heat sheild to protect the cone.

relocating the battery is one way around it but i don't really want a battery in my boot or footwell. lol. and smaller batteries don't hold their charge very well. i looked into it last year but i found no point in doing either.
and they both cost money. removing a single pipe is free :)

havn't noticed much difference in mpg yet.
no noticable power decrease etc. just a better sound

Mark One, this is exactly what i want to do with mine. I have a very large chrome mesh cone filter and i`m thinking of jubilee clipping it direct on the TB and designing some sort of heatshield.
I`m trying to work out though if it can be done without having to relocate the battery and ECU! Maybe just turning the battery around sideways and then altering the position of the ECU?? If anyone has already done this MOD i would be really interested to hear how it was done?

Cheers all!!!!

Sam :)
