Which camera for £500

  ITB BG 182
Im looking at moving up in the world of cameras as i only have a TZ7 at the mo.
I want some thing that can take clear images with fast moving object but also image quality.
Not sure what to look for, i have no experience with dslr or slr cameras.

Start small, get a D40/60 second hand if you can. Saves you spending so much on a camera that you might not end up using that much.

Cracking little camera, or for £499 you can get the twin lens kit.

The D40/D60 doesnt have autofocus built into the camera so you are limited to what lenses you can use on them.. as my mate found out :rasp:

But from experience I can tell you that the double zoom kit from Nikon focuses much quicker and quieter than the entry level Canon.

The D3000 is a nice bit of kit too:

I disagree, the only lens I wanted that wouldn't auto focus is the 50mm, but Nikon have a 35 and 50mm out now that both af. Your'll find all the better lenses have autofocus built in.

get a D80 for that, they don't make them anymore but i've still seen them around new for around 450.

What Revels said. I read up and found the 450d to be slightly better specced than the D60, so I went for the 450d. In the end it comes down to what you need and how it feels in your hand.

As a heads up, if you sign up on Talk Photography and send a PM to Kerso asking for a Canon price list and a clearance price list, then you'll be looking at:

Canon 500d with 18-55mm IS lens for £499
Canon 30D body only for £399
Nikon D80 body only for £449
Nikon D40X body only for £199.

HTH.

Aye, so are the 30d and the D80, just saying that it's available on the clearance list and as such could work out cheaper than a newer model. I'm tempted by the 500d, but think I'm going to wait till I can get a 50d or something.

better lenses cost money and the budget is £500.

Hasn't the d40 been discontinued?
