alot of steam

Car  clio sport 172
is anyone else getting alot of steam coming out from under their bonnets with the cold weather?i cant remember it bein so bad last year.is there anythin that could cause this out of the ordinary?

dont think so mate cos thats what i thought it was to start with but if i lift the bonnet theres nothin noticable..its wierd like i was startin to think its heat off my headlights

I've had it very occasionally but only when its raining, I guessed it was just water eveporating off something hot(radiator?). At the time I checked under the bonnet and there was nothing obvious, water level is fine etc and its been ok for a year after I first noticed it.

It was only a tiny bit of steam as well.

I think i have seen a bit of water vapourising whilst stopped. Only in rain though. As Howard said it could be off the radiator. Is there water in your head lights?

nah but they do get pretty warm with them bein xenons prob just the evaporating like said im prob just panicing lol

Check the engine bay for leaks with the engine running, look under the car etc. If you truly believe you are seeing steam from your engine bay it could be hot coolant hitting the road whilst you are stationary.

right cheacked it again lastnihgt and its now like steam with a funny smell coming from the fan area

My 172 when it broke steam from the front passenger light, well just behind.

sounds like your car is gettin hot, the smell is prob the coolant. same thing happened to me in the summer, only did it once

my radiator and the bottom hose are knackered...gettin replaced on wednesday..costing me 420 plus vat, gutted

£420?!?! You joking? I got a rad for £60 and fit it myself this weekend! Took a few hours but sack paying £420 that is massively overpriced!

hoping i get money off it but just waiting to see...the guy said it needs a radiator,a hose, all the clips and seals,3 and a half hours labour and coolant

SRS do it yourself, it's daunting but not as bad as you think. Only screws and bolts after all.

Hang on half an hours labour ? Lol he's got your pants down !

(Ps. It took me about 5 hours) :o didn't know what I was doing though, and just did it on my driveway no ramps.

Lower hose is actually pretty much all the hose lol think i paid £88 for mine.

ur headlights get quite hot so might be the rain steaming off of them.

i get a little bit of steam when i go through a big puddle??

lol it was 3 n a half hours aluco..iv been told its 150odd for the rad and 80odd for the hose..goes in on wed so il just need to wait n see what the bill ends up

the guy told me 420 but my brother went in to the same guy a couple of weeks ago and he took money off it for my brother so hopin he does the same for me due to my dad bringin him in alot of business from taxi companies etc
