Optimax is great for you engine. Keeps it clean and efficient inside. The extra Ron you get over supermarket fuel is a debate that will go on and on. Personally ive not used anything other than optimax from day one, Shell Vmax in germany (100ron, woohoo) and some 98SU while in belgium (no shell stations in sight), and the one time i used esso 97 SU it ran crap.
The Supermarket stuff is the same as normal Unleaded, but obiously Optimax is better fuel. All that b****cks about people saying "Dont use Tesco Fuel" etc is a load of cack, Who is gonna make different or cheap nasty fuel for a supermarket. Its cheaper, yes but only in price. The reason Supermarkets can sell it cheaper is they can afford to be with the main profit with food etc. But yes Optimax is better made. Below is a review on Optimax:
) The petrol will make your car more responsive. This is especially good whilst driving in rush hour traffic. Or can be great fun on country roads.
2) The petrol burns cleaner. This is due to the higher Octane levels than cheaper petrol. Octane rating is a measure of a fuels resistance to knocking. This occurs during combustion when the fuel-air mixture explodes ahead of the flame front rather than burning smoothly, causing a “knocking” noise. As it burns much cleaner the mpg of the car is improved slightly. This is more noticeable on long haul journeys.
3) Because you are putting cleaner petrol in your car your cars engine will be less clogged up. This is due to more refined fuel and less particles in it. This can result in cheaper services and less maintain of your car. Also you petrol tank will not fill up with as much sludge. Also the petrol contains detergents which help these statements as well. Because the petrol is cleaner it will not bake itself into the engine inlet valves and cause problem around the combustion chamber.
The difference between optimax and conventional fuels is about 4p. I think this can be justified but it is up to your self. This extra cost of 4p can be reduce when taking into account the information that you have just read. HOWEVER USING OPTIMAX IS THE MORE EXSPESIVE OPTION!!!! However just for less hassle in the future I would recommend it.
Think ill still to 98, lolSome say Optimax goes off a bit so thats why a fresh tank is better. Next time let your car run right down then put £15 of fresh optimax in, see what u think.
Btw they rekon petrols gonna be up to 90p a litre by June which will make optimax about 96p, sometime in the future I intend to drop to Sainsburys Super to insulate me from the price rise... you have to draw the line somewhere.
After my input into the matter, i wouldnt pay for optimax either. Has enough paying for it when i had my Scooby as i had to run it on that. My Clio runs fine on normal fuel. Besides, anyone who thinks they need good fuel to make their Clio run better need to get it looked at. Clios always run nice and quick theyre cool.
Ive only ever filled my car with optimax apart from a week ago when I tried some esso premium.
I didnt drive the car any differently (afaik!) but the esso only *just* lasted a week whereas a tank of optimax lasts nearly two weeks, in that respect optimax is saving me a fortune!

I dont really think of fuel costs but thats probably as I only ever put in between £18-£25 max a week.
If I was doing more mileage I would probably consider this more closely. Lets face it all fuel is a rip of coz of the tax, at least with Optimax the price is due to the quality.

Ive been looking at an unleaded/LPG conversion. Work do some initiative where they will meet the costs of any succesfull aplication.
Will only loose around 5% of power while on the gas but think of the savings - plus if I want a blast, I can just switch back over to petrol and away I go with my full quota of gee gees
Means losing my spare wheel... shame

interesting but will you really only lose 5% of power i would have thought it would be more than that. but the fuel saving would be amazing. you do tend to only see conversions on volvos though. bit of a status thing id say.
E91 M Sport
More fuel = more weight over the rear wheels - which is welcome in the V6, especially on a wet roundabout. Car gets very skitish when its almost empty. I think a lot of cars are the same.
