Apologies in advance for the long read, and this could go in GC, but does feature a lot of the Clio

So as some of you know, I set off for France on Wednesday morning, with four planned stops along the way:

aaa.jpg

Lille (D)
Paris (E)
Epernay (Champagne) (F)
Brugge (G)

The car received a service at TheEvilGiraffe's Auto Services with the help of Danny172 whilst TEG and Sash sat about and watched....

The car got:

Oil
Oil filter
New spark plugs
New Cabin Filter
Check of all bulbs etc
Also, a damn good wash/polish.

So I set off with the mrs to catch a ferry first thing Wednesday morning, with a boot FULL and a cheeky chappy tagging along on the CS holder:

After an amazing (but expensive) posh breakfast on the ferry, we arrived at Calais and parked up for a quick stop: (At this point she started to think I was sad with all the Clio related pics and wanted to show her disgust)

3.jpg

We had planned to go to Le Toquet for lunch, but the Satnav couldn't find it (my bad for having no post code) so off we shot straight to Lille to find the hotel, where the Clio found it's first resting place:

4.jpg

We walked into Lille for a few drinks and then found somewhere for dinner, we came back to the hotel to find it looking very pretty and lit up, so we sat out the back and had a fair few more drinks: :)

The first day was already over, time to move on.

Up relatively early, we shot off into Paris (fecking traffic nightmare) and eventually found out hotel, which this time had an underground car park, so the Clio found it's next resting place:

7.jpg

We went to the Arc de Triomphe (look at me all touristy)

8.jpg

Then onto the Eiffel Tower (I've never taken so many photos of one thing and I don't even know why)

(Hi Sharks)

The views were quite worth the walk up the stairs (I couldn't believe the amount of lazy tossers that were queueing for the elevator!!!)

12.jpg

13.jpg

That was it for Paris (well Paris in pictures) we went out for a really lovely meal near the Moulin Rouge and that was that.

The next morning it was time for the trip down to Epernay, in Champagne. Some amazing roads and some harsh tolls  later, we arrived:

14.jpg

The Clio got a very pretty parking space for the night and off we went:

15.jpg

In Epernay, I'd decided to pay a little more for the hotel and it was really worth it, possibly the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, despite being only three star (iirc), it was really amazing.

16.jpg

17.jpg

Bed+mrs=win ;)

18.jpg

We went off for a tour of the Moet & Chandon Champagne houses which was pretty awesome and we got to drink some very tasty Champagne, which was served in surprisingly large portions.

19.jpg

20.jpg

(Yes I'm an idiot, but I had to, for t5 more than anything)

21.jpg

We went out for the night splashed out on a very posh meal with a bottle of bubbly, but it had been my intention to do that since planning to go to Champagne so it wasn't too much of a shock to the wallet.

That was it for Epernay, although I really love it here and could have stayed for ages!

Onto Belgium (Bugge) and the longest journey of the trip (but still only 3 hours)

We crossed the border and to my surprise there was nothing there, not even a guard, just some empty huts, so off we went...

22.jpg

Brugge is a lovely place and the main giant carpark was underground, under all the main square etc, a very good idea really, so once again, the Clio found itself a home:

23.jpg

A couple of shots of Brugge whilst we were walking around:

26.jpg

That was it really, we went out for a nice tradition Flemish meal and then returned to Calais the afternoon, pulling off the boat around 6:45

A quick shot of the Clio interior with my weird claw:

27.jpg

All in all a lovely trip, the Clio averaged 42.2 MPG :eek::eek: and it went without a single hitch, I filled up fully before leaving Sidcup and only filled up twice in France. Once with 35 litres and once with a lowly 18, very impressed.

Having the new quiet exhaust was like heaven compared to driving to the Lakes and back earlier in the year.

Oh and one more pic for Will. because he didn't get his MMS

Cheers for taking the time (unless you just looked at the pics)

FLOL...

It used to be fun when you turned up. Now you just get in the way. By the way, we've moved. Don't bother coming over again to fix anything you broke in Frenchland.

kthanksbai

Ali - FLOL! I think it's just the angle...

TEG - Moved somewhere with a bigger garage I hope?

Oh and all photo's were taken on an iPhone.

I've got a few where I took several photo's and have merged them to add, but I haven't finished messing about with them yet.

Could be done for less hotel wise and food but it's about enjoyment and probably would not have been as good if he had spent less planning something similar myself next year with the mrs

Could be done for a LOT less tbh, but we stayed in nice hotels and ate at quite fancy places every single night, hotels could be done for circa 150 I think, maybe less.

Cheers mate, yeah twas fun, you missed your MMS chance though, bad show. I'll have lots of tips, but make sure you get to Epany no matter what!

Oh, and PM'd also. ;)

Very nice indeed.

Cheers mate.

Looks a brilliant time Rob, so want to go bruge for the weekend.

Do it! Depending upon where you get the ferry to, you can be all the way there in 2 hours from Dover!

Really good pics mate, seems like you had a good time. Wouldnt mind doing something like this myself next year, I was gonna do it this year but my plans included starting out in my sisters' fella's place in portugal and going up through france and then up to amsterdam, but when I worked it out it was pretty pricey!

Oh that and driving my own car on the wrong side of the road would scare the s**t out of me! lol

Nice little trip. Made me laugh that you expected a border crossing guard into Belgium. :D

2 Hours!! bloody hell that is close. Many decent places to stay there?

Loads mate, so many hotels! Prices weren't bad either tbh.

Not bad, low ear.

I want to do a roadtrip. Ideally with your missus.

I'm taking that as being sort of like "pad foot" in Harry Potter, therefore a cool code name..

Glad you enjoyed it Rob, Lille & Brugges are both lovely :D

Epernay was the best Dave, but yeah they were all wonderful, thanks a lot for the Lille recommendation, much appreciated :)

Awesome.

Punching above your weight with your Mrs though ;)

Cheeky f**k (I know)

No mention of my accidental text :(. Looked a good trip.

I just text you, how co-incidental!

Dan' here was the one that informed me I was now an area rep, and then tried to sell me some stuff! LOL

Nice little trip. Made me laugh that you expected a border crossing guard into Belgium. :D

Well it is a whole other country, so I just assumed? LOL

I was thinking of organising something for members, well the ones I know anyway.

Possibly spring time, just a three or four day trip, two in each car sort of thing. Tents maybe though?

May be back in the lakes again in a few months actually Mark, lol!

Nice trip! I fancy doing something like this too, but there's no chance my missus would last longer than an hour or so in the car and would want to know 'how long till we get there?'

Your Mrs is fit btw.

Looks awesome matey.

Pics of your missus' interior?

Cheers mate, you cheeky fucker!

<3 - see you thursday xx

It's a man-date. (I'm impressed you read it all tbh) ;)

You'd be suprised, mine said, and I quote, "I quite enjoyed the drives actually". I let her do all the navigating, brave I know, but it made it more fun for her. Just had no sound on the satnav and she told me where to go, kept us talking to rather than her falling asleep.

Awesome stuff mate, I really fancy doing something similar with my OH, although like Matt she hates long car journeys. I'm sure I'll be firing you over a PM in the near future for advice (and pics of missus ;)).

Mine and hutchies trip was still far more awesome tbh. 890 odd miles in 1 day.

Seriously? Where the hell???

And where was my invite?

Mr Strode - You forgot to add the part where you called me because you were lost and also being an idiot !

Twit.

Cheers mate, the green wheels are going for a while, and being replaced with silver ones whilst I finally get the one I fubar'd sorted, but apart from that (and adding a ph2 tailgate) it's just how I want it.

Also, kudos for the most car related post :D

LOL!
