  Clio 172 Phase II
Hi All

I have a 172 Phase II that needs some work. Can anyone recommend any good garages/mechanics, etc that are familiar wiv 'em?

Cheers!

Thanks very much, Louism.
I perhaps should have been more specific. I'm in High Wycombe, Bucks. I could go to Hoddesdon though of course.

JMS in uxbridge are probably reasonably convenient for you - just down the M40.

Thanks Gashead. I had already approached Tom at JMS as they seem the closest and come highly reccomended. I emailed and called him but he hasn't got back to me as yet, and time is getting a factor now.

They're usually very busy and it takes Tom a while to respond to things, but I'm sure he'll contact you, especially when he sees this thread.

Dont worry as above JMS are flat out all the time so it can take Tom / James a short while to get back to you, but its well worth the wait!

Cool! All booked in now. Strangely looking forward to taking it in! I was anxious to get it looked at before this weekend as I'm gonna be doing 1500 miles in it from Monday next week. Cheers all!

Whilst I'm on about it...so, crunching gear changes when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear....It's quite irritating but I could learn to live with it. Is there anything to be done (change gear oil?) and is it likely to get worse?

Well, been to JMS and it was the most pleasant garage experience I've ever had. Great, friendly blokes that take the time to talk and explain stuff and obviously have a passion for the cars. Cool.

Sounds like the syncro mesh for 3rd (something like that anyway).

Common problem i'm afraid :(

Just take your time with changing gear. Is it happening when you're giving it some and the rev's are very high or just all the time in normal driving conditions

Just when im giving it some and its better when it'd warmed up. If Im prcise with my changes then it still crunches though not as bad. If i let the revs driop beow 4K or so, then it's ok as long as its warm

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
The best option is let them get the box off, get it down to agency transmissions & see what they can do about the gearing etc-

Gonna cost a few bob though - :(
