  172DD Cup
hi, gearbox is currently out of the car as it's busted. i've got a replacement on it's way. is there anything i should look at replacing while the box is out? i've got clutch and bearing. anything else?

cheers

i suggest they inspect the fly wheel for any scorage. and ee if there is any weapage from the oil crank seal. apart from that just the box oil :)

cheers. i'm still weighing up going for that refurbished one from burpspeed. been speaking to agency transmissions, they reckon circlip popped

full clutch kit

Clutch cable, if needed

gearbox oil (obviously ;)) use the correct grade 75w80 GL5 synthetic

gearbox mounts.. if they need changing a good time to do them!

quite a few 172's I have seen sometimes have seeping / leaking sump gaskets and crank seal... these are also easy to do while the box is out, if necessary

if you do the sump gasket, obviously new engine oil + filter

if the crank seal needs to be replaced you "should" replace the flywheel bolts also... there about £1.50 each IIRC (you need 7 of them) also check the flywheel for any marks / scoring / heat spots

that is most of the things I can think of off the top of my head :)

if it is that, pop out the passenger side drive shaft and you should be able to see straight away if it is that!

box is at garage in bits. i've decided to go for that rebuilt box from tony/burpspeed. saves worrying about what needs doing to it.
