Hi all,

Always liked 172/182s and now i can finally insure a 182 at 19 im on the lookout for one. Got my eyes on a cup.

Just wondering whats to look out for, any major faults or little common faults to look out for?

I know the other usual stuff, smoking when cold, accelerating etc, knocking noises, service histroy. But i know most cars tend to have their common problems.

Any help would be great.

Everyone will say the cambelt service, £500 job. Done every 5 years/72k. Steering wheels are bound to be shagged.

Belts, as said. Make sure the gearchanges don't crunch.

Other than that, you can't go far wrong, imo. Nothing's too bad.

Not particularly fussed which model like, just want a nice standard one or even one with an exhaust. Its only to potter about in until insurance drops on what i want next and to do a few track days in :)
 
Whats standard spec?

Ive found a nice 172 in dark metallic blue, 40k on clock. Says its got cruise control, xenon lights. Xenon lights are a must for me!

Yeah all 172 come with xenons and cruise, half leather, climate control etc... Bar the Cup. The early models didnt come with cruise like mine.

FF182 Comes with xenons, half leather, cruise, climate control, Cup suspension, anthracite wheels, cup spoiler and splitter.

182 Cup has poverty spec interior, cup suspension, cup spoiler, splitter, and xenons.

Cheers guys. I like all the colours really apart from black. Having owned a black car and the milage i do i just cant keep it clean!

182 is about 1k over my price range sadly Tunsts. Im liking the iceberg silver is it? But that Monaco blue on the 172 looks stunning.
 
Yeah i was looking for an iceberg silver myself but i got this one at a good price. If you need a hand with anything gimmie a shout.

I have about 4k to play with but there seems to plenty of good ones knocking about for 2900-3000. Cant drive it until february anyways lol.
 
Get a 172. You'll get a beauty for that money. The phase2 172 is almost identical to a 182 anyways, only noticeable thing really is the exhaust.
 
I like the sound of this 172 ive found. It says no ABS, TC. Where as some seem to list it having it?

It has a s/s longlife exhaust though. Would have to change that. Although it does have white speedline turinis.

Edit: I think if its a 172 it has to be monaco blue. If its a 182, iceberg silver.

Not keen on phase 1's. Mileage isnt an issue in my opinion, long as its been looked after. Id rather have a high milage one than a low milage thats been to shops and back once a week.

Probably going to be from a garage as i have a car to trade in. Also like the wierd red that the 172 seems to come in.

not sure tbh mate, but if youre not driving it until feb did you say then you have got plenty of time to look

do you have any plans what you want to do to it?
 
Yeah waiting until Feb. If i drive it now, insurance is 2k if i wait until Feb it drops to £1200.

Not many plans, keep it clean and look after it. Maybe few suble carbon mods.

Its just to tie me over until i can insure a dc5.
