What Clio do i want...

  Corsa C SRi 1.8
Hi all, I've been a member on here a while as I’ve always wanted a Clio. I've never posted though just browsed about.
I'm looking to get a Clio in the next month or two but not exactly sure what I’m looking for so thought I’d ask for your advice. I know this question gets asked alot but the Clio range is rather confusing. So thanks for any help.

Right so I have a budget of £3,500 maximum!

Criteria:
Phase 2
around 50k

now I understand the difference between a 182 and a 172. It's the 172 I’ve been looking at and this is where I get confused.
The one I want is a 172 cup, the reason for this is I want the up rated suspension but these seem to come with a horrible interior compared to the normal 172. So what are the main differences between the two and which one would you recommend?

Should I get one with cup suspension or not and then get a decent set of coilovers?

Thanks for any help,
James

If you're going to get coilovers, getting the cup isn't a big deal anyway.

But the Cup has crap interior, no aircon, lighter glass, no spare, no xenons, no auto-wipers, no abs. But it gains a better colour and better alloys.

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Never had a 182, but tbh I think with your budget a 182 with Cup packs and belts done is within your grasp, and as its french, would go for something as new as your budget allows. If 3.5k is budget then cars up at 3.8ish....

I've got a similar budget mate and i was after a 182 with cup packs but i've been told the best bet is a 172 cup. Best to drive and cheaper labour times at the garage of something goes wrong because theres no aircon unit. I have a vtr at the moment so even the cup will feel refined in comparison.

Thanks for all the help really appreciate it. Seen a 172 for sale on Autotrader round the corner from me so went to have a look at it yesterday and it was in a really sorry state for it's self so i was really put off buy it. I wasn't there to buy it though just went for a look.

Didn't really think i could get a decent 182 in my budget but i'm in love with that. Shame i'm not in the position to buy one yet :(

Where abouts are you?

On the south coast for 3,500 you'd have to settle for 75k miles and maybe the odd dent or scratch but as you go further north you'll be able to afford increasingly well kept examples. TBH you're spot on r.e. the difference between 172 and 172 cup, sportier suspension, basic interior and no toys whatsoever.

Just because I know you're going to ask this and that you probably won't find the stickies explaining it, I may as well try to explain the 182s here...

* 182 (half leather/alcantara seats. cruise control. climate control. esp. tcs. abs. xenons.)
* 182 cup (no toys. cup suspension. bigger cup spoiler. deeper cup front splitter)
* 182 trophy (Not relavent at about £6k. recaro seats. V6 rear spoiler. no toys. red paint. anthracite speedline turini wheels. sachs (sp?) suspension.)

I've probably missed a thing or two, nevermind. Now the normal 182 is available with 4 optional extras: recaro seats (like the trophy, very rare), sat nav (rare), cup suspension (so you get uprated suspension from the 182 cup but get to keep the nice interior) and "cup spoiler" (bigger rear spoiler & deeper front splitter). The ultimate daily-driver is often nicknamed the "182 Full Fat" meaning a normal 182 (good interior & toys) with the optional extra cup suspension (for handling) and cup spoiler (for looks)

I'm from Sunderland mate so pretty north.

The toys doesn't really intrest me if i'm honest. Don't use air con in my current car, only even have the radio on if i have a passenger. So i think either a 172 cup or 182 cup will be the one for me.

Is there a big difference in price with the 182 cup and the 182 full fat?
Just i wouldn't turn a full fat one down just because it comes with the toys.
