Throttle body....how hard isit to change?

Car  No car
Hi guys, I cleaned my throttle body the other day and I found it quite straight forward, I have a warning light come on in the instrument panel! I've been told I need a new throttle body. I said To the guy at the garage I could do it myself but then he mentioned how it has to be programmed to the car. Is this correct? I was gona get a second hand one off the forum, fit it and hope for the best. What u think guys?

Really! So basically just unbolt take off the plug and then the pipe swap over put everything back and job done?

Haynes manual 1 spanner difficulty rating.... be careful! lol at the scare tactics though - the dealerships used to do this also. I have seen a K9K EGR valve lose its adaptives from being unplugged before though but thats a different matter.

Out of curiosity/stupidity i'm gonna ask... what light have you got on the dash (amber ZigZag?) and what made the garage say you need a new TB?

Mick

Like Mick says, what light have you got on? If the body is knackered the car will be driving s**t, not just recreating Blackpool on the dash. FYI i'm selling a TB ;)

yeah it's the amber zig zag in the box! When it comes on I'm limited to 3k revs. So they said its most probably the throttle body. Gona cost around £170 (parts labour and vat)
But I cud do it myself :-s ?

Just in case I do need to change the throttle body, how much are u looking for yours Jonny?

Yeah I cleaned it the other day, that plug was jammed up tight! Managed to get it out after 15 mins of poking and prodding it! Yh I was gentle and a lil bit snapped off mine too!

Jonny, can I provisionally purchase that? Just gona try and see if it's the throttle or the wiring. Then if problem still ain't solved I'll have it off you?

Plug on the throttle body makes me rage, snapped a bit of the clip off mine, and i was being gentle :(

you're a ham fisted oaf though ;)

push the plug ON apply some pressure to the clip with a screwdriver (careful, it's plastic!) , then pull the plug off. very easy

To late now :p I remember when i first did it on my mates 172, i pretty much destroyed the plug lol cracked in half pretty much :/ The fists of ham were strong that day

lol they are so easy to remove. Try doing the airbag ones without getting frustrated and cutting the buggers

lol i removed my steering wheel in about 5 minutes, airbag wires were easy!

Tell you what you remove my throttle body plug, and ill do your steering wheel. haha

Two plugs/connections that always gets me raging is the starter motor spade connection and the gearbox reverse sensor plug. I've always got cold hands by this point- on several occasions i've talked about torching other people's cars over these two little f*****s.
