what to do?

Got me 197 in bits doing the Cambelt, got all the Renault tools the crank pin, 1496 can locking took an 1801 an 1509-01 now before I whip the belt off I'm checking the timing. Cranks locked but can't quite get the 1496 in the end of the cams, looks like the exhaust can is slightly out. What to do now? any help would be much appreciated

Crank pin in the correct hole (not the balancin hole)? If the timing is really out, slacken the pulleys, remove the belt and rotate the camshaft until the horseshoe tool fits in.
