Possible Gearbox Problem

Hi,

Noticed last week completely out of the blue that my car was juddering slightly when pulling away in first, only did it that day and now seems fine. This weekend when taking it out for a spirited drive when dropping down to second at highish revs it sounded like it was whining slightly, but tbh this could all be in my head. However at the same revs in third I cannot hear the same noise. Looking under the car there is abit of oil over the selector as normal on a 1*2 but perhaps a little to much. The car has only covered 38k and I changed the gearbox oil last month for the correct Elf stuff from Renault. I hardly rag the thing and it only covers 4k a year!

Thoughts? Box on the way out? Worth getting fixed ASAP or waiting until it gets worse? Got a track day in Aug :S

Just checked my gearbox oil, was slightly low but not topped up. The whining seems to be coming from my belts rather than the gearbox thankfully! Belts were done around a year ago so not covered alot of miles at all! Strange...

Ok so cleaned the underside of my gearbox last weekend and probably only covered around 100-150miles since but the underside is slightly damp, would you consider this normal? Comparing to my last 172 it looks 'ok':

Most are like that oil residue wise, as long as its not leaving puddles when parked up then dont worry

As for whinning could be PS pump or alternator if belts recently done

No puddles no but it does have that awesome plastic catch tray to stop that anyway. You can see in the pic that its slightly wet.

Both belts were done just over a year ago in which time ive covered around 5-6k, gunna have to get someone to hold the revs and have a closer listen to see what's causing it.

I also get this noise sometimes, i find it more in reverse....but not when moving forward not a horrible whine just sounds a little different to the average reverse noise...
