The panel just pops out. Just use a screwdriver (wrapped in something to stop it scratching) and lever it out.
And yes, the switch is easy to replace. Just unplug the old one and plug the new one in. The triangular cover is a little fiddly to get off/on but even so, in total the whole thing is a 2 minute job.

Loads on ebay. If you get one without the switch cover (which you don't really need unless you break it) it's a couple of quid. A fiver maybe with shipping.
